Droid Rate of Production

Droid Rate of Production
From watching the droid factory scene, it appears that each droid moves one step along the plant roughyl every 3-8 seconds. When Padme first falls into the crucible and its being lifted off, you can see behind and above it that there are mostly if not completely finished droids being moved to another part of the factory. If they were being sent to equipping areas, the finished droids are coming out of the plant at a rate of about 4 droids every second or so.
If this is the actual rate of production for the entire facility, which seems unlikely given its size, then this facility is producing 14,400 droids per hour, 345 thousand droids per day, and 125 million droids per year. It's unlikely that this is the only droid manufacturing plant on the planet Geonosis, given the size and scope of the war and the demand for troops.
If the droids have been in production for 10 years now, since the events of TPM, which seems likely, then there would be over one billion droids to fight this war. Those numbers makes the large-unit counts for the clone troopers seem tiny in comparison.

I pointed this out a long time ago, and the rate varies depending on what operation you're looking at, so they must have different numbers of lines for different ops. The fastest op would be the overall production rate, since they must split lines for slower ops in order to maintain throughput.
In any case, they can certainly manufacture droids faster than the Republic can manufacture clones. This is why I surmised that the Republic must use recruitment to beef up their armed forces over time, although it is rumoured that Lucas will eventually dub the original trilogy with clone voices to revise it and make every single stormtrooper into a clone.
That would only make sense if there are a shitload of clone factories, or they speed up the growth acceleration even further. I don't like it as an explanation, although one way around it is to point out that the bulk of the personnel may be in the Navy, and the Navy is not composed of clones. Remember that battle droids are also used as starship personnel by the TradeFed.

That's my theory right now. They could grow them faster, but it takes 10 years of training to get them up to par. But once they get flash imprinting, then they crank them out like crazy.Darksider wrote:perhaps the fact that the droids can be built quickly enough to vastly overwhelm the clones will lead to the one-day "flash imprint" cloning seen in the thrawn trilogy???
Plus the 20000 and 1 million could refer to just that factory in just that city, and you've got multiple cities all over the planet, which would substantially up the count. After all, look at how many major (as in Toronto, Chicago, or London sized) cities there are on earth.

the kaminoian talking to obi wan said they had 200,000 units ready and "another million well on the way" and since he was the aid for the prime minister i would assume he meant all of the facilities on kamino but he did not specify how big a "unit" is it could have been each individual trooper each squad, platoon, regiment, ETC.

Let's keep in mind, however, that he didn't say how far apart the batches were separated. They were in constant production, and the first 200,000 run was what we would call a "first-off batch", not necessarily indicative of full production.

Re: Droid Rate of Production
Ofcourse with future publications we might see that a unit is not equal to one clone, if the rumors I've heard comes true, we might have 19.2 billion clones.kojikun wrote:If the droids have been in production for 10 years now, since the events of TPM, which seems likely, then there would be over one billion droids to fight this war. Actually,it does make perfect sense, doesn't it?
The EU seems to protray the Clone Wars as bad,and Zahn threw around some hints about bad jedi in his books.
I mean,imagine this scenario.
Rogue Jedi, freaked out about increasing losses in the Jedi ranks, decided to crank out more and more clones,at a faster rate. They use flash imprinting, and instead of the one year growth rate specified in Heir to the Empire, they accelerated that growth to months or even weeks,in the end, resulting in clones going mad.
Now,imagine if those clones troopers, wrecked havoc on some world, while under the direction of Jedi.Hell, what's if Anakin played a major role in this fisaco, and led those mad clone troopers to free slaves. And innoncents got killed.
On one hand, the clonetroopers force are heroes. They are saving the Republic even better than the Jedi, and are doing things the Jedi won't do to preserve order. On the other hand, some bad apples are going mad and becoming killing machines on the battlefield.
On the Jedi side, they're dammed cause they're the one who allowed and unleashed this horror into the galaxy. They're also dammed cause they can't prevent it.On the other, they're dammed because their attempts to prevent innocents from dying are viewed as being pacificist and ineffective, their morals doing nothing to help those in need. And some people prefer using the clonetroopers,as they appear less superior than the Jedi intervention,a mood we see in AOTC as people seem to resent Jedi business.

It's in his latest updatekojikun wrote:--Also, Saxton estimates that a coreship can hold a maximum of 200 million battledroids if all it's cargo space was dedicated to droids.--
what part of the commentaries estimates this? that seems like a large number, for such a tiny ship.

It's not really, and the ship is huge.kojikun wrote:--Also, Saxton estimates that a coreship can hold a maximum of 200 million battledroids if all it's cargo space was dedicated to droids.--
