Palpatine intended for his Empire to fall apart if he died?

Which EU writer came up with this? Was it Tom Veitch?
I wonder if he ever realized that the Death Star, had it not been destroyed, would have prevented this from happening.

I don't think it's ever really stated that Palpatine intended the Empire to fall apart after his death; he simply never intended to die (as indicated by DE). Thus, he never really gave the eventuality much thought.

Publius is always with us.
Sic Transit Gloria lays it on down pretty good. Very lengthy, keep your names straight, but extremely detailed and comprehensive. It's mostly EU stuff, sourcebooks and such.

the Dark Empire Sourcebook most explicitly I believe he's mentioned. (or at least was the first.)
Didn't Mike Horne write that book Gal?

MAybe you should ask him why it showed up in there...

I vaguely remember it being written in the actual DE comics themselves, but you may be right.

I reckoned that Augie never even thought of dying that's why he deliberately had his Empire operating on organised anarchy. So that his underlings would be too busy jockying for power under him to band together to take him down. Plus he seemed to me to be one who liked that sort of thing.

He resorted to Byzantine politics not too dissimilar from Marka Ragnos' form of keeping his subjects in line.
But unfortunately, similar to the aftermath of Marka Ragnos' death, everyone started killing each other in a blood fest.
