Size of the starfleet of Bakura

I'm currently reading R.McBridge-Allen's Corellia-trilogy and there we are introduced to the Bakuran Defensefleet.

At least four of the ships (three destroyers and a light cruiser) from that fleet have a device, that allows them to move through an Interdiction-field, but how large is the fleet in total?

I'm curious because Bakura is a planet in the outer rim with only a few million inhabitans and it'd be interesting to know how much warmaterial such a world can afford.

In the time the book was written, it was SUPPOSED to be moderatly large, including many more HIMS equiped ships comming online.

Unfortunantly in the NJO era, it was retconed to say that those four ships were the ONLY capital ships in the Bakuran defense fleet.

Why am i not surprised?

Of course i was aware how CTD screwed up what was said in the novel, but this is another low point.

That's not all. In one of the WEG supplements, the Bakura system was orginally defended by one (1), aging Carrack-class cruiser. Strange news that they lost to the Ssi-Ruuk, weak as they were.

Because any state worth its salt would send every bit of its defensive capability away on a mission at the pretty-please of a Jedi Master. What bullshit. It should've been a rather small detachment.

Don't blame WEG. That's the whole premise of the novel Truce at Bakura. The system started producing its own warships after that debacle.

It's a pretty resource-poor, isolated system. Might as well blame Tatooine for not being guarded by a phalanx of warships.

Which goes directly against the novel itself, which states that the Bakurans have already lost half their defence force when the message reaches the rebel fleet at endor. Taking this into account and then adding the fact that the Imps got hammered during the time the rebel fleet took to assemble and to travel, it is only logical to assume that Bakura was defended by more than one aging cruiser, when the statements in the book imply at least a force of two carracks, plus several system patrol crafts and maybe even a capital ship stronger than the carrack.

I stand corrected.

Indeed. Essentially, the size of their fleet was a plot device that allowed the Ssi-Ruuk to be a credible threat, even after being utterly defeated by the NR after the first invasion of the planet, and subsequently pushed to the point of destruction by the Chiss.

Remember, this is the equivalent of the small town in Alaska that makes custom landrovers building three DDGs and an Aegis Cruiser. Even if we assume that Bakura was part of the 1 million member worlds, and not one of the colonies, dependencies, and protectorates, it still means that the SW galaxy can support a minimum of 4 million destroyer grade or better vessels.
