Stormtroopers still exist? I thought they got their asses kicked like 30 years ago. Then merged with the NR. What are they still doing around?

Cool, what's it about? If it's more up-close-and-personal Stormie stuff like we glimpsed in his Luke/Mara book from awhile back (whatever it was called), I just might get back into Star Wars.

If he doesn't focus on Han, Luke, and Leia too much, and Zahn doesn't wank out Mara too much, I suppose this might end up being pretty good. And the stormtrooper plot looks like it has promise, but there's no way of knowing how much of the book is actually about that.

Yeah, that's the one, thanks.

I'm a sucker for Stormies.

I want to get back into Zahn. How good was Survivor's Quest and Outbound Flight?

The weird thing is, I originally did not like Survivior's Quest, but after reading Outbound flight I re-read it and enjoyed it more. Even though SQ came out first, if you have to read both read Outbound Flight first. If you have to pick one then just read Outbound Flight.

By the way for the confused people, This book takes place during the OT, its not NJO stuff.

Got it. They both sound intriguing, but they came out when I was going through a 'fuck the EU' phase and I guess I just missed them.

It's Mara-centric, right? Or the story is about Mara's backstory?

Yes, stormtroopers still exist. The Empire was never completely defeated, only beaten into a tiny podunk corner of the galaxy. The Imperial Remnant is now part of the Galactic Alliance (the post NR government) and stormies actually fought alongside NR forces during the war against the Yuuzhan Vong.

I wish there had been more focus on the Imperial effort against the Vong. Force Heretic I: Remnant was one of my favorite books of the series; Pellaeon is awesome.

I enjoyed them both, especially after Outbound Flight came out and filled in the rest of the backstory. Try them if you like Zahn.

Here's the gist from SW.com
In Star Wars: Allegiance, which takes place during the time between Episodes IV and V, Luke Skywalker is still new to all this Jedi business. Han Solo isn't sure how much he's willing to commit to the Rebel Alliance. Princess Leia is trying to help run the Rebellion and wondering why Han is so infuriating. The young Mara Jade is one of the most valued agents of the evil Emperor. And a team of stormtroopers goes rogue, deciding to mete out justice their own way...
JAn 30th of 2007! But I need it a month sooner so I can read it on the boring ass christmas Flight, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

More to this thread then 90% of spam that occurs here.

Off to PSW.

As for his last two books? I enjoyed Outbound on it's own, and moreso how Zahn filled the holes. Survivor's was eh, but definitly enhanced by Outbound.

Alligence looks interesting given the era.

When I read Survivors Quest i hated it. There was so much i didn't get about it and the useless fluff like the Destroyer Droids and the 101st Vaders Fist just seemed like a needless tie in to the PT.

After reading Outbound Flight a lot more makes sense. Though I hated the way Caboath(sp?) was portrayed. Zahn seemed to forget that Jorrus had clone madness from being decanted too soon and the orignal didn't have to be nutty as squirrel shite. The Thrawn wanking was a bit excessive too IMHO but it was a compelling page turner.
