What's the Story round six (ROJ BG ship etc.)

The sixth round of the "What's the Story" databank entries (which includes the ROJ BG ship) has been published over at the
Official Site.
I'm not too sure about the scaling of the ROJ Mystery ship, now designated as Dornean gunships (stated as being 90 meters in length...) and
Carrack cruisers being present at the Battle of Endor?

90 meters? What? there are submarines bigger than that, and this is supposed to be a gunship that can hold off a Carrack? Gee, thanks sw.com, your wisdom knows no bounds...

90m puts Home One at ~2000 m. I'm suprised they didn[t submit 56 or somesuch.

That's an improvement, but as you know, scalings of the Home One hangar etc. shows that it's ~3,800 m.

All in all a so-so round. I did like the entry on Kuat of Kuat's aunt and having her swear loyalty to Palpatine forever in exchange for escaping corruption scandals. Also, KDY ships fought in the Old and New Sith Wars. Don't think that was ever explicitly said before. I was hoping for a new ship class name-drop but this is almost as good. 8)

So let me get this straight.. A ship SMALLER then a Corellian Corvette is able to hold off a dedicated warship more then Three times its size? A ship I might add that is categorized as an Anti-Starfighter gunship?
Perhaps it’s the fact the ship has 8 ‘double’ turbolaser turrets. On a ship smaller then a Corellian Corvette? Gee, Wank much? I’d LOVE one of these people actually try and physically fit 8 large turret emplacements on that ship. Looking at the picture, it is just a spindly ship made from old models from RotJ. And at 90 meters it has 8 turrets?

I was thinking about the same. In addition to that, the pictures in the
Wookieepedia entry seems to indicate that the vessel is lightly armed as there are no visible gun turrets etc. Of course, it was seen in very few shots in ROTJ, but it wasn't very active.

Around the hangar, maybe ...
It must be a joke. A very poor one.

And lesws we forget, it doesn't JUST have 8 Turrets, but also 8 Missile tubes! And all of the Ammo that must go with it naturally!
Surely this must be a TARDISian Ship to hold so much in only 90 meters!

Well, at least the
Carrack-class has room for starfighters and hundreds of troops, the
Braha'tok-class has none of that. And it's almost a brand new design while the
Carracks are decades old, so I guess the guns are improved and the space is maximized for them. And of course, it appears the
Carracks have gigantic bridges whose glass covers much of the frontal part of the 350m vessel.

It is rather odd that a brand-new design would look so... well, secondhand. The starship in question has a distinctly beat-up, tacked together apperance, not something you would expect of a state-of-the-art warship. It's design is perfectly in keeping with the "used" nature of the SW universe, but this backstory most certainly is not.

A FAR more plausable backstory would be something along the lines of:
"The rebles, desperate to get their hands on any ship possible, acquired two old Dornean class gunboats that where used in the climatic battle at Endor. At only 90 meters, the ships where dwarfed by the massive Star Destroyers of the battle. yet while pass their prime, the ships preformed valantly and served as fast escorts picking off many small starfighters.
There... Far more realistic and has the ship actually doing the role it is catagorized under. And by the by, does it get to anyone else that once again we have a case of the rebels getting some sort of Uber brand newship that kicks the pants off of those nasty Imperials?

At least the two ships together only took out one Carrack and that's it. The rest of their service in the battle was picking up survivors from other downed vessels.

Were Carracks even present at the Battle of Endor?

Bah, Carrack ships were present at the Battle of Coruscant as well, what's the big deal?

True enough.

I just can't picture them to be present there. Why would such aging ships have been involved there? Well, I guess I just don't like the idea.

Are Carracks really as oldf and decrepid as everyone says? Wern't they brand new at the time of the Clone Wars?

That's just the author's way of justifying its destruction by two piddly gunships.

Considering that SW tech is supposed to have plateaud, and that Dreadnaught and Victory-class vessels (among others) remain a capable part of the Imperial fleet for over thirty years after they were designed, Carrack-class ships should maintain a similar level of serviceability.
As to how one was disabled by two anti-starfighter gunships supposedly smaller than a CR90, perhaps other factors could have intervened, such as a passing broadside from an MC80...

Also, I noticed the Carrack was called a gunship in at least one source (and put it up on Wookiepedia), so it was basically two small gunships against a large one and one of them was so damaged afterwards, it was supposed to be scrapped, but got transported back to Dornea to be used as a war museum.

And why does every little background ship or character need to have it's own grandiose story? Are there no average people in the Star Wars universe? No useless ships that jump into a battle and get vapourised without heroically destroying an enemy vessel thrice their size?
Take the Duck ship entry - they just
had to drag in a Sith lord. It couldn't have been the interstellar camper van of a retired pharmacist or something, nooo, it's the Legendary Starship of a Tragic Heroine who Resisted Maul, a ship that Became The Stuff Of Legends!!!
Am I the only one who thinks this glorification of background crap takes away from the universe rather than adding to it?

Well, if most of the battle is spent picking up survivors from bigger ships and they cooperate on taking down
one Imperial gunship, that's not too wankish, given the battle they're in.
I did think the Dusty Duck entry was a bit much (ducks from Naboo being wellknown throughout the galaxy?
), but the grim humor was funny. I mean, the ship was home-made, made a few trips, its owners got killed and then it just sat there. The End.
Am I the only one who thinks this glorification of background crap takes away from the universe rather than adding to it?
You're not. I just think most of this stuff wasn't too bad or too derivative than what it could have been. You should have seen a DD entry that
didn't make it, it had parts of the interior being used in Luke's X-wing at the battle of Yavin, decades later.

There's already a small anti-starfighter vessel that's purely military without room for cargo or passengers. We know it as the Corellian Gunship. And at 120 m long, it has the same number of dual turbolasers, half the number of missile launchers, and 6 quad laser cannons. So basically the Dorneans were able to build a ship that was only 75% in length, but with the same if not superior armament. This thing is definately overpowered.
But at least they only took out a Carrack, as VT-16 said. The wank could have been a lot worse.
