I seem to recall having once read SOMEWHERE that when there is a conflict in the star wars canon and it can't be settled by hierarchy, that "The cooler numbers/facts win." Cooler being whatever is bigger, faster, stronger, harder ect. So you use the biggest figures for the death star's size and what have you.
Did I dream this up? Or does anyone else remember a Lucas employee saying this? It's been bothering me.

I can't find the exact quote at the moment, but I'm pretty sure Leland Chee mentioned it in one of his posts.

Wasn't it actually the more 'established'?
