Millenium Falcon Prototype

I'm a fan of the old 70's show Space:1999, and I remember reading that one early design for the Millenium Falcon was rejected by Lucas as he felt it looked too close to the Eagles from Space:1999.

Has anyone ever seen a picture of this design?

the MF prototype was eventually adapted into the Tantive IV blockade runner.

Yes, there are pictures on Brown's archived page.

Hmm...I can't honestly see much similarity between that and this

Other than the fact that they're both pretty much linear designs with landing skids there ARE no similarities unless you mean them having the engines in the back and some sort of cockpit or such in the front. Gee, what a shock.

Well it was close enough and Space 1999 was popular enough that they still wanted to avoid the connection.

The four skids are in basically the same spots on both ships. The overall length of both ships is what gives them the similar look.

It's not a particularly unique design, to be sure.

Even some of the Star Trek ships have that look, though not the skids.

Incidentally, isn't that picture that of a Correllian Gunship?

In a way. The rejected MF design inspired the design of the Corellian Gunship.

EDIT: The first designs (especially the one at the bottom) looked nifty.

All the past one look damn niffy, but I am glad Lucas choose the model he did. It is unique to the star wars universe. All the other models and concept drawings shown here could fit into almost any Sci-Fi verse with out a big deal.

hmmm. those pics look alright, but like, it captures the imagination of like the next 500 year space technology. it's to, i hate to say this, modern. like, i'd expect to see those kinds in like, the old republic during the mandalorian wars. i spelled that wrong, damn. but i think the way the MF turned out was pretty sweet. to bad they couldnt like show it in 1,2,and 3. and han never showed up in three. what a bummer

Which is still a couple dozen millenia ahead of us technology-wise? Not that basic engineering considerations like reaction engines being at the rear end of the ship are going to change much over time.

Why should they have done so in the first place? Even if it existed back then any connection it would have had to the pre/aftermath of the Clone Wars would have been contrived like nobody's business.
and Han never showed up in three. what a bummer
Given that he would have been about 12 or thereabouts at the time (high end) I find that highly unsurprising.

Actually, the YT-1300 shows up in a few scenes of AOTC, I believe, and also perhaps in ROTS. I'm not a hundred percent on that, mind you, but I do distinctly recall seeing a YT-1300 on the ground when Anakin and Padme's transport landed on Naboo.

Lucas stated, IIRC, that he had no intention of Han appearing in the prequels, so it's moot anyway. Although I was amused by the comic book where he runs into Quinlan Vos as a kid... that Jedi got around :P

i had this vizualization in my head last night, if the falcon merged with like, a naboo star fighter, i dont know why i thought of it, i just thought it would be cool.

Yes the Falcon was in AOTC and ROTS. IIRC someone said that the model used in ROTS is the actual mini Falcoln from one of the OT films.

It's not. It was a newly-built CGI model made specifically for RotS.

Putting the cockpit and the engine on opposite ends of a boom is a very sensible design for a spaceship; it's not surprising it has shown up a lot in scifi.

The design has several modifications in the show, although I'm not certain if they were design mods or attachable modules.

Could anyone even imagine any of the "prototype" falcons running through the DS II ? I cannot.
