Spider-Man 3 Will Have FOUR Villains!

Post by Jim Raynor »

Link
Former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad may have let a big one out of the bag when talking to IFMagazine.com. He says there are four villains in Spider-Man 3!

iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?

ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we'll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we'll reveal something and the madness will begin.

It will be "The Walrus", I just know it!

I can see how this will go, sorta:

Villain 1) Prologue fight, a mere "Cameo"
Villain 2) Sandman - "The Big lackey" and hired gun.
Villain 3) Harry Osborn - "The Mastermind" behind the scheme
Villain 4) Venom - "The Final Creation" For the last 10 minutes/climax fight of baddassness.

The fourth villain is obviously Aunt May turned into Carnage. :)

I'm pretty sure that one of these "villains" will have absolutely no screentime and will simply be a lead-in to the next wildly successful film.

I'd prefer for it to be Venom. I could see the Green Goblin plus two lesser villains working in one film...but there's not enough room in one film for both Venon and the Goblin.

Maybe it is either Electro (?) or Rhino?

I suspect the 4th might be a C or even D lister.

Rhino is a distinct posibility, IMO. A good "Idiot Thug" type that people may recognize.

I honestly don't see why people thought the Spiderman films were so great. I found the first one to be OK with some painfully bad elements and stupid plot devices, and the second one had an agonizingly boring middle section with a retarded main storyline. Certainly nothing to write home about. As recent comic-based movies go, I found X-Men, Hellboy, and Batman Begins to all be easily superior to either Spiderman movie.

There is something missing in the Spiderman films that's for sure, I liked them when I first saw them in the cinema but neither film stands under repeat viewing.

I'll agree with Hellboy being better. I haven't seen Batman Begins, and I found the second X-Men to be very slow in the middle (as opposed to the first, which seemed to be slow in the beginning). My own subjective ranking would be:

Hellboy
Spiderman
X-Men
Spiderman 2
X-Men 2

Whatever. At this point Raimi is either using three others as pointless cameos, or we'll have a movie that will make Batman & Robin look tolerable.

*sigh*

Why must the third sequel always suck? (with the distinguished exceptions of Return of the Jedi, Return of the King, and Indy & The Last Crusade)

Here's a partial list of crappers:

Godfather 3
Back to the Future 3
X-Men: The Last Stand
Batman Forever
Robocop 3

Can't think of anymore right now.

Missed the matrix.

Funny I find the last x-men film one of the most disappointing in a while. I guess I had different expectations going in.

Why is it that all comic book movie directors must think that the higher the number of the sequel, the more villains it must have in it? :?

Because by the time you get to the third sequel the characters are fully developed and don't need to be fleshed out. You can instead pack in ads much action as you want, and lots of villians=action.
At least in theory.

I doubt that this is Raimi's decision. In past interviews, he has stated that he hates Venom. And as everyone knows, he only used one villain in the first and second movies. This is likely the studio's decision, made to please the masses of retarded fanwhores screaming for Venom and more action.

Actually it could be kind of cool, if they bring back the original Green Goblin and Doc Ock they can do the Sinister Six.

You know, aside from both of them being dead, that's probably what they're doing.
