I have never quite followed the series much, though I followed other Japanese anime back then. A quick check indicated there were several animated movies released in Japan back in the 1990s and the one I watched was one of those. Curious that it was English dubbed though.
13 movies and two "TV specials" (made for TV movies). They've all been dubbed by now, some more than once and some by more than one company.
DBZ is crap, but I consider it my crap, all complaints aside. The first anime I saw and all that.

Yeah, this is an actual live action movie as opposed to yet another animated one. Helps to read the actual article. Most anime that gets shown on US tv tends to be dubbed in English, though.[/quote]
For better or worse... Somehow the idea of a live action movie made from an anime somehow stirrs premonitions of horror.... Though the FF7: Advent Children which had the characters depicted as humanly as possible might suggest it might turn out right with tonnes and tonnes of CGI, but in turn making the idea of a live action movie redundant.

As far as filler goes, IIRC part of the reason Japanese studios don't just stop production for 6 months, a year, or whatever is that they're afraid that in that time the public will be taken in by some other fad. Either they're not too smart about consumer tendencies or the Japanese have a worse attention span than US audiences.
DBZ movie. Heh. This can only end poorly.

That's bullshit.
But anyway, this actually seems interesting I'll admit I was into it as a kid. (GT ruined it for me) I have mixed feelings on it. You know at least 20 minutes of the film is going to add up to guys screaming so loud you would expect to shit themselves any second.

They both suck, have no sense of pacing, have fillers out the ass, feel the need to wank their characters constantly, and their only real solution to problems seems to be "train harder, or get saved by magical deus ex machinae". I'm not seeing how it's an inaccurate comparison.

I'll agree with you on the fillers for Naruto though they stopped them. (for now) DBZ's biggest problem was the whole its okay if you die I'll revive 10 episodes from now.

That would be the "saved by deus ex machinae" part of my rant.

Transformers was pretty rockin', I though.
But I get where you're coming from, the anime-to-live batting average is .000 as best I can recall.
Transformers needs more robots, and less humans.

This is known as "Every Single Shōnen/Seinen anime in the world, and many Shōjo animes".
Fighting anime specifically. I can accept the train harder thing, but when they rely on "powerful plot device from the writer's ass" every week, it makes the series kinda dull. At the very least when they make it so an enemy can't be beaten through brute force alone, or the choreography is well done it's more entertaining.

Fist of the North Star and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are the shinning stars of Shounen Fight. Even the Fist of the North Star TV series had a sort of visceral satisfaction at the end of each episode in that, filler or no-filler, somebody got spin kicked and exploded by the time of the closing credits.
