Smallfoot (spoilers)

Post by K. A. Pital »

I guess it is in no small part thanks to the absolutely brilliant translation of several songs, which has made it a real animation gem for us this year, but...

Anyone else enjoy Smallfoot? I'd say the Stonekeeper song was quite a moment in and of itself. :P

And yes, given that the main strength of the film is its story, I don't think it would be possible to discuss it without spoilers, so added it to the title although did not spoil anything from the start.

I was surprised that an American movie made in 2018 had a subplot about religion being a pack of lies used to control the population.

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

It was actually more than a subplot, practically the main plot.

But it also reflected on how a lie can conceal a deeper truth, which is not something I expected of a children's film. :P

Well, Happy Feet had something similar about a decade ago.

Is anyone gonna point out they named him MIGO?
Seriously?

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

I take this to mean that name has some significance that escapes me
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

It does, I think it means a person of Hispanic origin in some places.

Oh you sweet Summer Children.... maybe if I spell it "properly" as Mi-Go?
As in Lovecraftian Fungus Monsters from Yuggoth?

*reads further in the article* Huh... well... Lovecraft took Mi-Go from "migou", the Tibetan term for Yeti. There's a circular tale for you, I'd only known of the Lovecraftian version.

Great bit of trivia, thanks much. :)
