That's exactly what it is. Back in the Second Age, the kings of Numenor wedded with elves in their arrogant quest for long life.neoolong wrote:Something to do with the blood of Numenor I think. It's been awhile since I've read the books.

I thought it was because they (at least the aristocrats) were descended from Elros, who was basically an elf with a bit of human blood from one grandfather and one great-grandfather, but who chose to be a human. Long life was naturally theirs. It wasn't until after their life expectancies started waning that they sought ways to gain immortality, and then they turned to alchemy and sorcery, encouraged by Sauron.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:That's exactly what it is. The Numenorians were the sons of the first marriage between Elves and Humans. There were twin sons born... each with the god-granted ability to chose either the life of a mortal, or of an elf.
One chose Mortality, and though he and his sons were gifted with long life and health until they were well over 200 yrs old, they would eventually fade and die.
The other twin is Elrond.

Elros, the first king of Numenore, was Elronds brother. They were decendants of Elwing (grandaughter of Beren & Luthien) and Eärendil (son of Tuor and Idril, princess of Gondolin)
Luthien was the daughter of Melian the Maia and Thingol the Sindar king of Doriath infusing som maia blood in Aragorn & Elrond.
The Edain, the three tribes of humans who joined the war against Morgoth, was given many gifts by the victorious Valar. Among those very long lifespans but many of those gifts were gradualy taken back as Numenore strayed from the straight and narrow.

Wow. And I thought the FotR Extended DVD was long...
I wonder if the TTT Extended DVD will have a red faux binding slipcase? (I say red because that is the color the TTT Special Edition OST case was.)
I think red would look quite nice next to the worn green of the LotR Extended DVD case...

Well even if I wanted to use them as book ends I don't think could, because they are not heavy enough to hold up against a shelf load of books. I personally just have them on a shelf displayed with a few other things.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Eh?
