Best of the UU versus Gandalf, who wins?

Assuming that they know about ahead of time just long enough to prepare spells.
'After 9/11, it was "You're with us or your with the terrorists." Now its "You're with Straha or you support racism."' ' - The Romulan Republic

'You're a bully putting on an air of civility while saying that everything western and/or capitalistic must be bad, and a lot of other posters (loomer, Stas Bush, Gandalf) are also going along with it for their own personal reasons (Stas in particular is looking through rose colored glasses)' - Darth Yan

And so for those who don't know what UU is...it's the Unseen University from Prachett.

Well, I don't believe mortal weapons can harm Gandalf: at least not Gandalf the White, so the crossbow is out.

I'm guessing a fireball won't get past that Silver Fire.

Depends if it takes place on the Disc or not.

If it does, then as soon as anyone starts majorly flinging spells, it's time for the improbably constructed appendages....

Gandalf wouldn't be stupid enough to take her on.

In terms of headology certainly, but we've seen in the earlier books that Granny is "merely" the peer of the highest level wizards. (specifically when she and the current archchancellor had their duel in Equal Rites) I'm just saying it isn't an automatic victory.

Since it's the UU vs. Gandalf I'll have to hand it to the Discworlders. The upper level wizards can keep him occupied with traditional wizardry, and then the boys in the High Energy Magic department will teleport a bag of socks into his head. Or something.

But they'd be as likely to spend all day chatting with the fish. More properly, even they don't know what they can do with that stuff.

Which era of UU are we talking as the wizards in the first couple of books are actually quite powerful. God help Gandalf if he were to go up against a Discworld Sourcery.

Sourcery is a bit different than *real* wiuzardry, though, as any real wizard could tell you! :)

I bet it is. UU has had plenty of candidates to take on Gandalf in the past IMO:

1) Quite a few of the older wizards in the first few books seem to be pretty powerful.

2) The Librarian: Ook!

3) Rincewind while he is carring the eigth spell of the octavio around in his head. For all intents and purposes he seems to be invunerable while he has possession of the spell.

4) Coin the Sourcerer. He was the Archchancelor for a bit so i class him as a resident.

5) The Luggage :D

I can just imagine this scene:

The Libarian and Gandalf are looking at each other
GANDALF: What is that monk...
LIBRARIAN: OOk! OOK!
THe librarian knucles over to GANDALF and attempts to remove Gandalf's head by twisting it off...
