Can trolls drown?

Post by Shrykull »

Could you kill a troll by drowning it? If you put it in water it drowned, then you pulled it out would it get up again or would it stay dead? I killed one once in the madmaze game on prodigy this way. Don't think they used to AD&D rules for trolls though, rather the "3 billygoats who crossed the bridge story" rules.
What are some other ways to kill it? What about putting it through the blender? If there's no cells left to regenerate wouldn't that do it. Or killing it with necromancy- finger of death, etc. The 2nd ed monstrous compendium said that if a troll was chopped up that only the largest piece would regenerate, but people used to tell me if you cut a troll into pieces that each piece would become a new troll.

Hmmm... do trolls respire? If they do, I don't see why it wouldn't work, although you might have to weight the body down. At that point, scavengers in the water should take care of it.

3rd Ed troll rules only allow for regrowing of severed bits and 5 HP/round healing.

Tarrasque style death immunity is a bit much..

Of course it would stay dead. Says so right there in the Buffy sourcebook.

The way I see it, the only way to really get rid of a troll is to ignore it until it gets bored.

Though it is much more fun to flame them.

Let's find out if trolls drown.

Get DarkStar, a rope and the biggest rock you can find.

You can drown trolls. You can drown anything that breaths, as long as it's into a medium it can't breath.

i.e Water breathing trolls can't breath quick sand :)

I agree, flaming them is more fun. Nothing kills a troll quicker then 8 elves with long bows and flaming arrows

Heh... who needs a rope? All you need is a carefully constructed argument that humans require air to breathe, and he'll cheerfully leap into the river himself and hug a rock in an attempt to prove that water is EU and has no impact on his lungs.

Anyways, from the sound of things all you need to do is inflict more damage than its regenerative abilities can cope with. If you want to go to the extreme of "any one large body mass can regenerate," pureeing (sp?) the troll would still work, as would incineration, freezing, and dissolving it in acid.

IIRC Warhammer trolls cant regenerate any wounds at all if they have sustained a wound from fire beforehand.

Well since many of them live under bridges & around rivers one would assume that they are fairly good swimmers, I do recall legends of them living underwater and being somewhat amphibious....

Can't. Scooter is of the particular variant Trollo Antisapiens Antisapiens, which emits bozon particles. We can't safely approach that close to him without being adversely affected by the bozon.

I know this is in the rules, but is it also in the background??

The Discworld Trolls, other than Warhammer or D&D ones are silicon based lifeforms that don't respire. Their minds are affected by temperature as well. Wattercooling get a new meaning... Ever read "Feet of Clay"?
And in the twilight hours of the morning,
Before the dawn greets the day,
On freedom's horizon you will find us,
The sons of liberty.

God,
grant peace to this world -
for the warriors.
Amen!
