LOtR ending (possible spoilers for ROtK...
but if you haven't seen it, shame on you). Anyway, I went to see it last night, and my dad asked me why Frodo had to leave with the Elves. I didn't really know, and I thought that someone out in the wilds of SDN might.

He got to leave mainly because he was a Ringbearer, as was Sam, who left many years after.

Frodo left because he simply couldn't find any peace in the Shire any more. After everything he simply had too much of a painful past to every be at peace there. It was more a phsycological thing than a physical pain thing.StormTrooperTR889 wrote:but if you haven't seen it, shame on you). Which is why he was allowed to travel to Valinor, not why he left.Dalton wrote:He got to leave mainly because he was a Ringbearer, as was Sam, who left many years after.

Will Frodo live forever happy in the Undying Lands, or will he eventually die in Valinor?
I always thought it was the latter, because Valinor ("Undying Lands") was only called so because of its immortal inhabitants (elves, maiar, valar).

He'll die there, even sooner than he would have had he stayed home. It's in the Silmarillion, part of the reason why mortals aren't allowed there. Something about the place makes lives burn out faster than normal.Guardsman Bass wrote:Will Frodo live forever happy in the Undying Lands, or will he eventually die in Valinor?

Legolas did go, but I thought Gimli died first.

I'm pretty sure Gimli went with him. I remember being confused when I read it.

Legolas took Gimli with him to Valinor, after Aragorn dies.

Eh, OK; supposedly Legolas took Gimli with him, according to many accounts, but this is not certain. It seems highly plausible, though.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
So far as I remember, it's in the appendices in Return of the King. I'll have to find my copy to give exact quotes - Father took the books, the bastard, and I haven't seen them for months. ;_;Joe wrote:Eh, OK; supposedly Legolas took Gimli with him, according to many accounts, but this is not certain. According to the book, one of the last notes in the Red Book of Westmarch is that Legolas built a boat to take him over the sea, and Gimli went with him.

I did think it odd though. Maybe staying so long in the Undying Lands gave Galadriel a case of Mountain Fever or something
