I knew one was up and got to read it (parallel hosting) but for some reason the site won't load for me. The entire thing just stalls out.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Wherein a great deal of money is spent, and Haley Starshine freaks out. Also, I'm just blown away by today's Erfworld as well.

Demonstrates everything that is awesome and godlike about this webcomic, especially the final panel.

Well...
...
Damn.

I can give the elf a little bit of slack for going to pieces, then, I guess. V was completely out of magic when that happened, too, if I remember correctly...it's not even a matter of bravery or cowardice.

Character development plus making the fools on the BBS shut up at the same time. I approve.

It certainly gives some much-needed context for V's radical change of character.

oh yeah. It isn't that V is refusing to trance because he is driven to win, it's that V can't trance because of the nightmares. His ego has led him to come up with rationalizations, and his guilt to push himself to such extremes to make sure it doesn't happen again. V just went from "new party asshole" to "guy you feel sorry for"

Would it be fair to say that V is suffering from PTSD? From what I can tell from the series, that was the first major battle for the entire OotS, and V suffered the worst conditions out of the surviving party members.

Oh dear, not again... given that they've used pronouns interchangeably in the comic itself, I really don't think there's a set answer.

It's a fair guess; watching people begging for help (and subsequently getting mutilated) while unable to do anything has got to screw up the psyche.

Also, V has always been quite proud of his/her magic. Having it run out while people beg him/her to help them with it, and calling it useless when they die as V watches has to twist the knife.

In the english language it is grammatically correct to use the masculine pronoun when speaking of someone of an indeterminate gender.

I used to have a mage in AD&D who was a former evil Wizard, who got transformed into an infant, and started getting his memories back, so we had a pre-teen who knew lots of destructive magic....

of course this was in the same party as "Godfather Kobald", the Galapagas Tortis Druid, and a bunch of other wierdos.

The server reliability is horrifyingly bad, and has been for quite a while now (as in weeks, not hours). Does Rich know of that issue and is he doing anything about it? It's ridiculous.
