No X-es, so the imp isn't dead(which is some darned impressive hp from that little critter).

So, what Seventh level spells does V have up his sleeve to get him out of this one?

Well, possibly teleport, flight (more maneuverable than a dragon, but not faster), dimension-shifting, Expeditous retreat (running really fast), polymorph self (being near impossible to hit&see).
All of them are Level 7 or lower, IIRC. Of course, V need to have them prepared.

Invisiblity off all kinds wont do much good, due to the dragons blind-sense.

Of course, given that V could defeat this giant demon/devil/whatever, V could propably take on the dragon alone.

That server has never been something to write home about, but it seems that the staff is aware of the problem, because they have announced a mass purge of old threads in the message board (those predating 2006, IIRC) starting the first of February. If the server is giving more problems than usual as of late, it is probably the result of lots of panicked denizens saving their favourite threads.

That or, just like SB.com, their hardware is in the verge of terminal shutdown.

Is it the same dragon as before? It would take a true resurrection to bring it back after what V did to it last time.

A ghost? An illusion? Some other monster in disguise? A relative? A delusion caused by lack of trancing?

Ahhhh... cliff-hangers.

I was thinking delusion based off the fact that it can't come back, but comparing it to the young dragon in 186 there are differences - green eyes vs red, longer curved horns on this one, difference in claws (thick and stubby vs hooked and pointy), and a difference in snout. Could just be an art upgrade from over the years, but I'm not so sure. I'm thinking now it is more likely its mother/father/sibling/girlfriend that has been pursuing V for revenge. He'll have to ally with the imp to survive. He just burned though 4 high level spell slots shooting at the imp, and he is wrecked from having not tranced, so I'm not sure he can take it.
Ahhhh... cliff-hangers.

Things are looking pretty bad for V- This is an Ancient Black Dragon with at least 1 class level of Sorceror, while V's a 14th level-ish Wizard who has expended a bunch of spells

Right, I'm calling 'dramatic last second rescue by Elan, as befits a dashing swordsman'.

The likelihood of a second big demon showing up for the imp when the first one was wasted is essentially nil. IIRC, effects like petrification wouldn't be canceled by the anti-magic field even if V somehow manages to get the dragon over there(although that could be a long-shot strategy if I'm not remembering things right). And no other potential solution is springing immediately to mind, although one might occur to V's intellect that I am presently incapable of envisioning.

Did V pick up evasion somehow? I don't seem to be seeing any damage added to his character from the dragon breath. Well, I guess his robe changed a bit, but that seems like a really small effect for the breath weapon that dragon would deliver. :?

Site is hammered, here is a backup.

Oh yeah, shit just got real. Can the imp give V enough power to beat this thing? At this point I'm almost thinking that the fleet turns up and pulls his ass out of the fire, only to arrest him for "Consorting with Devils" when they see the imp there.

And yes, if the imp is after the gate he would choose V over a dragon. The wards on the gates require a holy caster and an arcane caster to operate them (as in Redcloak and Xykon, or Lirian and Dorukon). So the imp would need V plus a holy caster.

Also, the assumption is it is out to kill him. V may end up just captured by it. If it has been investigating and hunting him, I expect it has more on its mind than revenge for the death of the young dragon.

I don't think it's a given that things have gotten "real." Notice that the dragon talks like Vaarsuvius.

Thanks for that. Was driving me crazy to not be able to read it.

So I don't play the D&D system, but intuition tells me even a 14th level Barbarian wouldn't have the HP to take the kind of punishment that a dragon can put out. V has to find a quick way out of this, and I doubt it'll involve any of the other characters. Story-telling wise it'd be smart for the imp to say him as that would give V reason to go along with what he wants to do, thus furthering plot.

Hey, just re-reading some of the old comics, and I noticed that the Oracle had a client flying in. That would explain a lot as to how the dragon knew who to go looking for.

As it turns out, it's an entirely different dragon. The first one was a Young Adult Male, while this is apparently an Ancient Female.

The Imp called the dragon an ancient black dragon, and referred to it as a 'her'.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Well, its official now:

The dragon does not want to kill V - being a black dragon, he has a nice sense for sadistic revenge Spoiler
He wants to kill Vs children - will Vs sex be revealed?

Oh shit, V has children.

....well, that shouldn't be surprising, as s/he is married, but that does reduce the likelihood of it being homosexual marriage....unless s/he has been married more than once, or had them illegitimately....

Well, IF we will ever learn about Vs sex (not gender :D ), this story-arc is our best bet.
I do not think OOtS will reveal it as a quick joke, and i can not think of any better moment to reveal it than now.

But then again, i LOVE Vs current status - trying to determine Vs sex out of Vs behavior is just too interesting.

Darnit, I meant 628.

Now, I remember from some of the bonus material book 3 that Azure city was supposed to have good relations with the elven lands, but they're far away. Bets that that's where Hinjo and fleet headed?
