Re: The OotS thread
Given the wing size, I think the Empress might be an advanced Redspawn Birther.
Which, given her size, is probably scarier then a Red Dragon as of right now.
Cause you know, the Empire of Blood would be the Empire of Tiamatt's Blood, complete with an army of 'Spawn of Tiamat.'
If a Bluespawn Godslayer shows up, We'll know for sure.

Wow, Haley's 'Empress of Blood' joke caught me a bit by surprise.

Re: The OotS thread
Redspawn Birther is a type of 'Spawn of Tiamatt'. Spawn of Tiamatt were first introduced in Monster Manual IV (3.5 Edition).Serafina wrote:Wait, i don't get that reference - what's that?advanced Redspawn Birther.
A 'Spawn of Tiamatt' is basically a mutant offspring from a true dragon. They are part of Tiamatt's latest schemes in her endless efforts to conquer all.
The Redspawn Birther is from "Forgotten Realms: Dragons of Faerûn" specifically. The stragetic and tactics section of it's monster entry reminds me alot of the behaviour we've seen of the 'Empress' so far. They want to eat, and are big on fire. They have to be restrained and controlled by followers of Tiamatt, and even that's pushing it.
The purpose of a Redspawn Birther is to give birth to more Spawn of Tiamat.

Re: The OotS thread
I'm wondering why Haley didnt grab the guy's crossbow. Since its been mentioned more than once how much Haley sucks at melee compared to bow use. The only reason i can think is ammo/reload issues but since we've never really even seen a quiver in OotS, I'd assumed the universe sort of ignored things like that.

Well, you already have the answer - picking the crossbow without any ammo won't do much good (well, except as an improvised club..)Crazedwraith wrote:I'm wondering why Haley didnt grab the guy's crossbow. Plus it's remotely possible that she has a feat that allows her to incapacitate for a brief time with a melee sneak attack, but not a ranged one.
But my money is on the ammo issue.

Re: The OotS thread
I think the "5 good dragons for each killed black dragons" deal Three Fiends had was that Tiamat had to not act at all. A large part of the Fiend's plan probably rely on V being under their control in exchange of the soul splice, thus a huge portion of their plans probably rely on V surviving.Crazedwraith wrote:The V thing is pretty logical really maybe not for this exact arc. (Though it still looks to me like that Arrow was aimed directly at V rather than Elan but he's already dodged in that frame, which may be the course of the confusion)
The expectation that Tiamat's going to get down and nasty is not entirely unreasonable. We know the fiends have placated her somewhat but still the team's managed to wind up pissing off a god of the west and they go to the western continent, where that god has the power to take direct action. So yeah, it kinda should be referenced somehow.

Helmet's wrong, heck, everything's wrong, but for some reason my first thought on seeing that guy was, "oh shit, it's Karesh!"

Re: The OotS thread
The bottom left panel is amusing. The guy is literally using one finger to fend Elan off.
It's subtle too. I noticed it by accident, given the light color.

I think that's Elan's dad. Or at least, the armor seems to match. Not to mention he spared Elan.

Umm.. the colour's all wrong, the horn pattern's wrong, he's wearing a cloak. Doesn't seem to 'match' at all.
Don't get me wrong, that could easily be Elan's dad. There's no reason He cant have changed outfits over the course of Elan's entire lifespan after all. But the commonality between the armour is something shared by a lot of Burlew's armoured fighters. Notably the Fighter in the Thieves' guild and several applicants to the Order of the Stick in The Origin of PCs.
Oddly I was more expecting them to run into Haley's dad.

You mean Haley's dad, the thief who's currently in prison?Since when can a thief look that bad-ass?Crazedwraith wrote:Oddly I was more expecting them to run into Haley's dad.

Re: The OotS thread
I'm not saying that, that guy is Haley's dad, just that I thought that over the course of this 'being captured by an evil empire' gig, they were going to get thrown into the same jail as Haley's dad. Or via lots of regime change her Dad is not longer in prison and is in fact running the place or something.
And speaking off Badass Thieves; how many Imperials did Haley just kill it what was like a single round of combat between Elan and that warlord?

Re: The OotS thread
The dragon wing symbol on the banner in panel 8 might also indicate that Elan's dad leads an army for a dragon, perhaps this one. Also, in 722 he gives his "word as a man of honor," and Elan's dad is lawful evil. This definitely could fit.

And since Elan's dad didn't raise him, but DID raise Nale...this could be a bad thing.Alan Bolte wrote:The dragon wing symbol on the banner in panel 8 might also indicate that Elan's dad leads an army for a dragon, perhaps this one.
