I don't know if it's wise to read too much into that, because it's probably just a stylistic choice. Zero, in any event, doesn't actively portray himself as a specifically Japanese rebel (as opposed to all the nationalistic resistance groups running around). Not even to his closest subordinates. He's a rebellious figure fighting oppression on behalf of the weak. And it just sounds cool.

No amount of searching is revealing any details about this, and I completely forgot where I originally heard this from, so what I just said may as well be pure fan fiction.
Well, I would say that's possible but still speculative. Nothing I've read explicitly mentions any alternative plans for that part of the show, beyond the obvious fact that the characters involved got the short end of the stick under the new / revised framework. Less screen time means less opportunities for explaining such things in any amount of detail and increases the need for quick shortcuts to move the story along. I don't think we'll ever know unless there's a remake or retelling of some sort (like, say, a movie).

I just figured that some guy in intelligence had earmarked him early on for possible use in propaganda, and that arrangements had been made so that he'd get the training he needed to be useful for that purpose in the future. I mean, seriously, son of the prime minister who surrendered, fighting valiantly for Brittania? It's like a propagandists wet dream.

That's what ends up happening by virtue of Euphie meeting Suzaku, but I honestly don't think that it was ever really inteneded. Suzaku was a totally expendable resource. The SF commander in the first episode did execute him, after all.

I think he was a 'royal guardsman', which sounds like the kind of force that isn't entirely meritocratic in its selection process. I mean if even Clovis can point out how useless they are.

Thinking about it I would have expected Suzaku to be more of a big deal with him being the former Prime Ministers son and everything, I imagine he would have tried to turn down the extra attention, but why would the propaganda people care what a goddamn eleven like him had to say about it?

Superman: Take over the world... Or rob banks, I'm not sure.

They're referred to as 'special forces' by name, if I recall. I guess I could have just said 'the dude with the hat', but whatever. :)

I'm not entirely sure what sort of benefit there would be to parading Suzaku around, at least until he becomes the White Knight (and later the Knight of Seven). Remember, Genbu doesn't have a good name, especially amongst the nationalists. Though Genbu wanted an unending resistance, the truth of his murder was covered up, so people assume that he committed suicide in order to escape responsibility (at least, as I recall). Beyond that I don't think Suzaku would have any relevance to the Britannians as 'Genbu Kururugi's son', as that's the Japan of the past, which they don't even remotely care about.
