Since there's been no women that said this in this thread and he's the been the only person to mention sex in any context with watching this particular film, it's easy to see how that conclusion was made.

Next time, we'll make sure we grab a woman to make her statement to a random man. I keep forgetting this particular part of protocol.

When I said "get laid" I was of course, in the same vein of the other posts, joking.
But both parties need to do stuff they don't like occasionally. You could watch Twilight with her so she watches anything you like with you.

One would think that an example of women engaging in the behaviour you are criticising them for would be proper protocol in this situation.

For the record, I know that your initial post was meant in the sense of "guys want to improve the3ir relationship with their girlfriend". I'm mainly pissed at Ghost Rider and Stark who decided to take that comment and run with it as though you were serious, because as we know, the only way women negotiate in relationships is "do as I say or I won't give you sex".

Also, sorry if my above snarky comment looked like it was directed at you, Spekio. It was referring to Ghost Rider's bullshit, but the forum didn't notify me that you'd already posted for some reason.

There is more than a little "nerds with little experience with women" and the tail riding closet misogyny in this thread (frex: how could educated women be so shallow).

Twilight is basically Transformers/Big Dumb Action Movie for girls, and that is exactly how several woman have described it to me. Many women kind of roll their eyes at Schwartzenneger and Optimus Prime, but for some reason they don't seem to feel a need to have an internet mantrum about it like the hate and vitriol Twilight inspires on the net.

I'm pretty lucky with respect to my girlfriend in that she's into a lot of things that might be considered traditionally male stuff like Gears of War and District 9. I figure I can spare a couple hours out of my life if she wants to go to Twilight and goo and gush and be a squeeing fangirl for an evening. For some reason I seem to be immune to the fear that my mancard is going to be revoked and my balls will explode like dust and my penis will shrivel because I went to a girly movie oh noes.

Allow me to change that, then.
Twilight is basically Transformers/Big Dumb Action Movie for girls,
No, it isn't. It's Porn. Straight up, chaste porn with several horrific moral messages along with it--some of which stem from Mormonism.

Characters? Action? Plot? These things matter not in porn. Having read bits of the books, just...look at the epic descriptions of the male characters physiques (especially Edwards) and you can practicelly hear the masturbation.

And that's perfectly okay. Porn is perfectly fine (Though it's more entertaining if they actually fuck).

The problem comes when its represented as anything other than porn. Romance novels have always been at least partly pornographic--hell, Dracula itself is a dime store romance with supernatural elements that can be summed up as:

"Foreign count comes to England and starts stealin' all the ladies. the guys get pissed about it and kill him to save their women from his illicit grasp."
and that is exactly how several woman have described it to me. Many women kind of roll their eyes at Schwartzenneger and Optimus Prime, but for some reason they don't seem to feel a need to have an internet mantrum about it like the hate and vitriol Twilight inspires on the net.
When the romantic, idealized lead is a creepy, manipulative, overprotective stalker, there comes badness.

Not that the heroine is much better (manipulative, shallow, co-dependent reader surrogate that she is).

It's not that they're girly and popular, it's that they're morally reprehensible and popular.
ISARMA: Daikaiju Coordinator: Just Add Radiation
Justice League- Molly Hayes: Respect Hats or Freakin' Else!
Browncoat
Supernatural Taisen - "[This Story] is essentially "Wouldn't it be awesome if this happened?" Followed by explosions."

Reviewing movies is a lot like Paleontology: The Evidence is there...but no one seems to agree upon it.

"God! Are you so bored that you enjoy seeing us humans suffer?! Why can't you let this poor man live happily with his son! What kind of God are you, crushing us like ants?!" - Kyoami, Ran

The idealized lead of your typical dumb action movie usually leaves a trail of dead bodies and massive collateral damage in his wake, like I said this appears to be the exact same "disengage brain, enjoy the spectacle" type of fantasy escapist form of entertainment only it is targeting what a different demographic considers brainless escapism.

So yes, it is morally reprehensible and popular, but then again how many civvies you suppose died when Megatron blasted Optimus Prime into that office building with his arm cannon? The part where Megatron spits "DISGUSTING" and finger flicks some guy into a wall like a bug? Everybody laughed at the casual murder.

In real life nobody would actually enjoy having Optimus and Megatron trash their home, just like nobody would enjoy being stalked by Edward; that's the whole point of it being escapist entertainment. It's awesome because you know there are'nt any real consequences.

Excuse me? Since When?
Are you telling me in Transformers there WERN'T consequences? I don't now how you reacted, but I don't know too many people who were "laughing" at the large scale destruction. Sure, perhaps a few more testosterone guys in the audience where doing a "Hell Yeah" at the carnage, but there was still carnage.

You make it seem as though in "twilight" the actions that you yourself say are "morally reprehensible" are somehow "ok" because its a movie?

Could you perhaps clarify things just a tad?

Just out of curiosity Maya, does this mean if someone starts a new Twilight review thread it would get a new chance? Or would Twilight in general be regarded as automatically testing material?

Uh... how does this make sense? He obviously doesn't even HAVE a girlfriend. Your personal hangups over poor partner choice and sports trauma are irrelevant; the idea that to get in someone's pants you have to watch their awful movies is complete bullshit. If saying 'actually how about we do abc instead' makes me an abusive sports-obsessed woman-hater, I guess that qualifies me to be your next boyfriend. In the real world it's just how relationships actually work, instead of childish stuff where you accede to every demand to make a girl put out.

Okay, going back to the movie.

I heard that the actors themselves hate the novels and the roles they play. Does anybody know whether this is true?

Also, I watched MovieBob's review (I find it entertaining when he gets pissed and sometimes he gives good recommendations) told that the whole novels were about advocating abstinence. What's the deal behind that?

The actors are talentless nobodies who are now massively rich and famous; no doubt they hate Twilight. They want to move on to other roles/cocaine parties. It remains to be seen if any of their celebrity lasts once they do this, however.

Do you seriously not know the deal with the Twilight novels? I think there's an old thread here full of the lols. :)

Yes. In interviews Robert Pattinson has commented on how he thinks Meyer is creepy and obsessed with Edward. And Kirsten Stewart has been known to exclaim on set "Why does Bella have to be such a douchebag!?"

Pattinson is also terrified of Twilight fans, since they'll run up to him after having scratched bleeding wounds into their necks and try to get him to drink from them.

Grow the fuck up. You chose to take at face value my post when clearly it wasn' t meant to be interpreted that way.
Again, while in your dating sims you might get all the girls, unless you want a co-dependent doormat for a girlfriend, you need to make concessions. Since you love to strawman so much, please allow me to remind you I never said you need to give into your partner' s every demand.
And how the fuck is a movie (2 hours) too much of a sacrifice? I bet your girlfriend (and by that I mean the person you talk on Xbox live with the androgenous voice that might as well be a 13 year old boy) doesn' t enjoy "insert crap you like" as much as you, yet, she(and I can' t stress enough I use the term loosely) listens to you because she cares.

To say you never did anything with a significant other you didn' t want to do shows how much experience you (don' t) have. Keep reading that "Pickup Artist" forum you visit show much. Perhaps someday you will be able to convince anyone on the internet.

What are the Mormon elements anyways? I've not seen the films nor read the books, so all I know about the series is that the Vamps sparkle.

You're kidding right? That's genuinely disturbing. I mean, I know that some fans sometime do some very disturbing and crazy shit, but holy fuck, they literary bleed themselves?

If someone here actually did see the movie/read the novels and started a discussion thread about it, then I'd let it stay.

I did consider moving it to Off-Topic instead then decided not to. If one of the other mods think this is worth keeping, they can do it.

You saw it because you like it. Come on, it's okay.
