More like overestimating how long you'll need it for.

Besides that, V probably knew that Belkar would be all supportive of V going evil.

The question is, how is the dwarf going to react.

And nice bluff by the sorcerer. Subcontractors.....

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Elan remains one of the most consistently interesting and well written characters in the strip. While I never thought much of V and Belkar up until recently, to Burlew's credit he always seemed to have a grip on Elan.

You know I think Belkar learned a lesson from all of this. It just so happens that that lesson is that you get xp from defeating a recurring villain and leaving them alive, so you can farm them for more later, but still.

Of course, the only real drawback of the normal bow as an icy burst weapon is that the crits don't come up nearly enough, even with Improved Crit or a Keen weapon. Still, something like +24-28d6 sneak attack damage from those attacks? I think the real shocker is that Crystal was still alive, if at negative hit points, after taking that.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. That was incredibly Freaking Awesome! :D

You only get sneak attack damage on the first shot, not the other three. Hailey was just being 'cute'.

The most the other girl could have taken from that is
12d8+36(assuming +5 longbow + strength of 18) + 12d6 (Icy Burst) + 10d6 Sneak Attack (unless Hailey is epic). And that's assuming 4 confirmed critical hits.

Potientally, alot of damage, but on average, that would result in an average of 150 hit points if damage.

Without critical hits (and we didn't see an icy burst effect), that's 4d8+36 from 4 longbow hits +10d6 from sneak attack. Maximum of 128 and Average of 89 hit points of damage. Plus maybe 10 points from the sword/dagger shot.

Nothing a 14th+ level Rogue shouldn't be able to handle. Especially if they have the Diehard feat (function at up to -9 hit points).

I can't wait to see the fallout on the giantitp forums, calling Haley's actions evil. On the one hand, it wasn't terribly honorable, but on the other hand, Haley was being incredibly practical. That's right up there with Mal kicking Crow into the engine in Firefly in terms of "Oh, you're planning to kill me. Let's deal with that."

That's not true at all. There's a reason powergaming rogues in 3.5 always go for large numbers of attacks, and it's because there's no rule anywhere that you only apply Sneak Attack damage once per round. In fact, the rules explicitly state that the extra damage applied "any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC, or when the rogue flanks her target."

Yes and no... I think She is being extremely smart, she KNOWS that Crystal is her "Nemesis" She will always be as powerful as she is and shes always goign to be after her. its one of those 'rules' things, and im glad to see her cut to the chase and just kill her (for now)

I thought Crystal had Uncanny Dodge. That would have prevented sneak attacks that relied on her being flatfooted.

Yeah, it's already there. However, to their credit there are a decent number of people defending Haley's actions rather than a bunch of people condemning her for it. Although there are a couple separate threads all discussing it.
Raxmei wrote:I thought Crystal had Uncanny Dodge. That would have prevented sneak attacks that relied on her being flatfooted.
Pretty sure she does. There's been discussion on the Giant's boards trying to decide if Haley could have gotten sneak attack or not, but one person posted an analysis that shows Haley didn't really need it. Here's the relevant quote from Nerdanel
Nerdanel from Giantitp Forums wrote:Well, Haley is making some 4d8 + 4d6 + 4 * 5 + 4 points of damage with her initial attack (assuming 1d6 cold damage and 5 generic enchantment damage from the bow per shot, plus the Point Blank Shot feat we know Haley must have).

Minimum: 32
Maximum: 80
Average: 56

If Crystal is level 15, she has 14d8 + 8 hitpoints, assuming no con bonus or penalty. This gives an average of 71 hitpoints, making it possible for Haley to drop her on a good attack.

But wait: Crystal was visibly wounded in the adventure to recover the Roy golem and was therefore below her maximum hitpoints. She still has visible scratches when she comes to answer the door. That makes it possible for Haley to drop her on a more average attack and/or drop her even if she has a positive con modifier.

So, Haley could have dropped Crystal in one turn completely without any bonus damage from Sneak Attack (which wouldn't apply).

Crystal probably has all d6s for hit dice rather than d8s. And that's probably a shortbow, not a longbow. Eh, it's possible for Haley to drop her in a round and her getting a round of actions in wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

Also, check the cast page, too. I laughed far more than is healthy for me.

His MBA is 'Master of Battle Administration', I think. From fighter college.

Roy's Master of Battle Administration has come up in the comic, but that was way back.
