Which sort of HP?? Does it stand for "Harry Potter", or is it the HP commonly followed by a Lovecraft?? (sorry, but your mention of Cthulhu just sent me wondering)
Buffy already incorporates Lovecraft a little bit (slight nods here and there, references, etc), despite what some fanfic authors say (those authors BTW also incorporate a mega-overdose of Christian Theology, despite the general lack of God in the Buffyverse outside of the Cross...)

Slashfics are below me. Also, I have several "golden rules" when writing stories - and one of them is avoiding drowning the story in pointless sex.

But if you want to write a story where Willow snuggles her Innsmouth counterpart, feel free.

Hey, according to "The Thing On The Doorstep" Asenath Waite is quite attractive - the only trace of her Innsmouth lineage is her overprotuberant eyes...

Gotta love SDN. Only place I know where a Harry Potter thread turns into one about Lovecraftian slashfics and no one bats an eye.:D

Ands people claim SBC is a hvie of villany and Sin, sheesh... oh, wait, that was Tron who said that. Never mind. Hopefuly the eyebeamz won't find me here...

Anyways... I say something as to the actual topic, but it'd mostly be rehashing the thread. Needless to say, I actually rather like the series, although the later books might stand for just a wee bit of editing...

BTW - while I'm never going to write any slashfics about Asenath Waite, count on soon seeing a short story for me - "The Highway Of Hell", a horror tale written in anniversary of Lovecraft's 113-year birthday.

I'm having a little trouble understanding this. At the end of this harrowing experience, what was your opinion of the series in general? Loved them? Hated them? Tolerated them?

Because a single person can't both love it and hate it at the same time?

Ok, seriously, I saw the cover of that book and annoyed the hell out of me, the character looked stupidly childish and I felt insulted just by watching it. Then my brother, who is sort of a mild retard, got it as a gift, he tried to read it but thought it was too childish, and then asked if people could please give him something worth reading like the Man in the Iron Mask or Gulliver.

Then one day I was really bored, and saw the movie on cable. And it looked stupidly childish and I felt insulted just by watching it.

Guess you can judge some books by their cover.

NOTE: I did feel that the Quidchithchhhhh game wasn't as stupid as I had figured out from reading about it was on reviews & stuff (good reviews, that explained the game, which DID feel stupid)

I don't like Happy Potter for one simple reason. All this hype about it beinf a new revolitionary tale is bollocks. The woman who write them simply took LotR, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Roal Dhal books and mixed them all up saying it was an all new original idea. The MTV generation are told that it's good and to buy the shit so they do. It's as simple as that.

You haven't actually read them, have you?

Of all those things, the only one that holds true is that she uses some time honoured techniques that Roald Dahl used prolifcally and to perfection (ie. the creation of a really nasty bastard, who you can cackle evilly along with as they go around being horrible to everyone, but then turn around and enjoy it when they get their comeuppance)

The rest is an ageworn story in itself, the destined one overthrowing the great evil, and most elements are fairly predictable (As soon as they're introduced you can generally figure out their role in the story), but it's not notably derived from any source other than folklore and fairytales for it's creatures, and life in a British boarding school for it's characters.

Aren't most fantasy about this story - just with some new ideas thrown in each time?

I have the British edition of the fifth book, and guess what? The cover illustration isn't "childish" as you are all complaining the American version is. Why don't you literally stop judging a book by it's cover?

Totally indifferent. I have no desire to read them- in fact, I haven't read a really good book in literally *years*. The last good series I went through was Piers Anthony's Hope Hubris books.
