Yes. The Snarl destroyed the previous world created by the gods; now we see a world inside the Snarl.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

What if the Snarl reformed the original world without the Gods meddling and arguements?

What if the Snarl is not evil, just misguided?

Perhaps the Snarl felt guilty and is rebuilding the world it destroyed.

The planet we see doesn't look quite all there.

Mr. Burlew has stated repeatedly that his world is not someone's D&D campaign or anything like that. Plus, the real world being inside the rifts makes no sense whatsoever. While I could see how it could be considered as possible, I don't even see why anyone would worry about it.

The world shown appears to be in the middle of a rather serious ice-age, with glaciers covering down to the middle lattitudes. I seriously doubt it's earth.

Blackwing getting character development is cool. I always thought it was a shame that V was estranged from her own familiar.

My first thoughts, upon seeing 672, was that the world was the one from Erfworld. But that would be silly.

Random and wild conjecture:

There is no Snarl, its either dead, gone, or the gods lied.

As said above, the Snarl is making amends to fix the world it destroyed.

And finally, the gates don't actually lead to the Snarl, but another dimension and 'Sorry. Snarl is in another castle.'(Well, dimension). Maybe the gates drifted to another dimension, one where this other earth-like planet is.

Course, I absolutely have no idea and I'm making it up, so shoot them down if you like.

It could also be that the Snarl isn't a single entity. Opening the gates could let in a massive army of little Snarls instead of one giant one.

The Snarl could and did reach through the gate and destroy people on the other side during the era of the Order of the Rifts, notably Soon's wife and Kraagor. Redcloak noted before in the comic that he thought it odd that the Snarl wasn't reaching through the expanding Azure City rift like it did before. The Snarl quite obviously did exist on the other side of the rifts at one point; the question is what has happened to it since the gates sealed it off.

Possibility:

What if the Snarl is not a killing machine?

What if it moved everything it 'destroyed' to someplace away from discordant gods? Including the world they made and couldn't agree about on anything.

When it came back through the Rifts, it senses more discord, and reacted as it had before. The Gates sealing it in convinced it that the world was no longer in discord (after all, 5 diverse beings had to work together to seal it in), and simply oh, went to sleep or something?

Now there's a mind twist; The Snarl, benevolent defender!

Except the last time it was let loose it was murdering anything living that came close to the breaks.

Well, it was attacking them - but if that is the old world that it "destroyed" that the bird saw, perhaps what it did to the people it attacked wasn't murder, but some sort of absorption. Perhaps it'll turn out that they are all there on that planet as well.

That's what I'm thinking.

I'd love to see Lich boy's reaction to that; "Wait, all this time, I've been trying to take over doors to another world, not a God-killing Abomination? SON OF A ORC!"

By that logic, wouldn't the gods it killed also be there?

And possibly be the only gods their?

That would be quite interesting. A world ruled by the Greek Gods.

Well, 1st Ed D&D had pretty much all the classical world pantheons, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, etc.

Yes, but none of the published worlds were exclusively a single 'Classical' pantheon. There were discussions on such worlds in Dragon Magazine, but never a 'core' world.

Oh man, now I owe to shiny pennies to a friend of mine. (We had a bet that it wouldn't actually be update on the 31st)

On the plus side our long ootsless nightmare is over!

Haley must be able to right awfully fast. :D

Is it just me or have the font sizes decreased? I'm finding it harder to read.

SHIT. I obviously wasn't paying too much attention when writing that post. Incidentally a proof read of that last sentence had nearly the exact same mistakes in (to/right for too/write) it. So we live and we learn.
