I don't think Smaug has any advantages exept for flying, which won't be enough. How about the entire cast of Middle Earth vs Godzilla.

Smaug is at a serious disadvantage. As far as dragons go, he ain't exactly the cream of the crop. He isn't a pushover, but compared to D&D dragons Smaug just can't compete. Godzilla takes it.

Smaug is puny compared to Godzilla. He has tough hide, but he has that one weakness on his chest, which being bathed in radiation won't do wonders for.

I'm not sure that Smaug could even take on the Mathew Broderick Godzilla. That one took a fair amount of miliary hardware to take down, but she was taken down. Smaug on the other had was taken down by a single arrow. Even if Smaug tries to keep a distance and engage Godzilla with fire, I don't think he can do any real damage. And if he wanders into Godzilla's reach he would be ripped to shreds.

Against the real Godzilla Smaug is so outclassed his only option is to flee, as has been pointed out.

I'm not even sure he can get away. Flight is not a new trick. As long as they start in LOS, Smaug isn't going anywhere unless he can do multiply machs in zero accerlation time.

This is so laughable. What about Godzilla vs. Gamera? At least you have two relatively same sized monsters both using fire and acustomed to radiation. Asa G Fan I think Zilla takes it but Gamera has shown an amazing ability to absorb punishment. I remeber him getting his arms nearly sawed off by that Ginsu knife monster in the old 60's Gamera. Gamera vs. the Vampire bat creature in the 60's also nearly had his arm severed by laser beams.

That would be a good fight. Heisie Gamera is no slouch either...Though I tend to go with Showa (every godzilla/gamera film >1990s) Godzilla and Heisei Gamera (90s monster movies) as the winner in those matches. For the same reason actaully, Showa Godzilla and Heisie Gamera are the better fighters out of thier counterparts.
