Anyone else see the Samurai Jack homage to Star Wars?

Post by Straha »

I think it was on 11 last night, right before .Hack//Sign. I was flipping between it and the Jets Game and I must say it was hilarious

Missed the first half. (Of SJ not the Jets game, couldn't say I miss it at all)

Yes I did. It wasn't so much a homage, they did have quite a number of Star Wars quotes though.

I think Genndy is showing off that he's creating a Star Wars mini-series, and getting really hyped about it too.

Oh, and you've got to love the Scotsman.

That was kinda funny. How many times you lift stuff from a single movie in an hour anyway?

You know, they're working on a cartoon version of events in the Clone Wars and I think they're using animators from Samurai Jack to do it.
No conscience. No law. No stopping them....

....well, maybe a Happy Meal would do it.

That's very cool. Samurai Jack is one of the prettiest animations on TV today.

When are the Clone Wars shorts coming out anyway? Or have I already missed them?

It wasn't so much a homage as more of lots of Star Wars scenes, the Greedo scene, When they first meet Han, the Obi quote "You won't find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy".

I can't wait to see what Genndy will be doing with it. It should be good (Even if it screams of inaccuracys).

I wnat to see a lightsabre fight. Remember that episode where Jack has to fight the ninja, so it ends up beign this straight black and white fight sequence and just looks fucking awesome? no imagine something better then that.

Yes I do, I loved that episode...He does something different for all his shows so we won't get the no black outline thing from Jack. But that's ok.

I'm probably gonna video tape the shows...

There was also a scene where they were trying to hire a ship to take them to the Great Unknown or something like that that was just like when Obi-Wan and Luke went to hire out Han and the Falcon.
Ship Captain: Job's gonna cost you 10,000.
Jack: We could almost buy our own ship for that much!
Captain: And who's gonna sail it, you?
Jack: I could!...I, uh, worked on a boat once...

I don't really like Samurai Jack, it's poor compared to Rurouni Kenshin, but how can you not love a homage to SW? :)

Bah, must of forgotten to tape the damn thing

Oh well, at least I got to see Birth of Evil :D
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

Definitely on American TV (at least hand drawn animation). Some anime is far more stunning and well done. Hellsing's got some spectacular animations.

Hellsing's not on American TV... so I can't compare the two.

What I like about Samurai Jack is the sound work. The Foley men are fantastic at getting just the right sounds and music for the episode. Also, the backgrounds are extremely beautiful, very deep and rich watercolors.

I know. I was simply using that as an anime with a really stunning visual style from Japanese anime.

Samurai Jack is the only American cartoon that I can take seriously.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."
