Spider-Man versus Mr. Popo

Post by Utsanomiko »

I've had this idea swirlin' 'round in my noodle for a while, and I just got the urge to post it today.

This is a comparison (as objective as possible, using visual evidence) of the overall fighting abilities of Spider-Man and Mr. Popo, and the likelyhood of which one can come out on the better standing (iow, who "takes a licking" and who "keeps on ticking"). No specific setting or situation, other than that the two have chosen to fight eachother.

Spider-Man is as we all know him. Super-strength, super-speed, spidey sense, radioactive spider-blood, the whole shabang. I'm not terribly familliar with examples of his min/max capabilites from the comic, so let's discuss Movie Spider-Man first and then downgrade/upgrade to Comic Spidey afterwards.

And here is Mr. Popo. I'm assuming not too many know who this is, so I'll start things off with a few examples. Basically, Mr Popo is Kami's blackface genie from Dragonball and Dragonball Z.

He may not look like much and doesn't participate in a lot of battles, but keep in mind he took direct part in training several of the 'Z fighters' in preparation for taking on Vegeta and Nappa in the Sayajin Saga. And much later on (in the Buu Saga), he easilly defended the attacks from Super-Saiyajin Goten and Trunks at the same time. These are better blocking abilities than Vegeta, who actually failed to block one of Trunks' punches when training one on one with him not long before the Trunks & Goten vs Mr. Popo incident.

Image
It'd be almost impossible to determine an upper limit for Mr. Popo's fighting abilities from his few examples of combat, but it's a start for determining what he can do at the least.

Well, take it from here. I'll see if I have any observations or facts to interject in a while.

Did you know 'kami' is Japanese for 'turtle?'

No, kami is japanese for 'god'. Kame is Japanese for 'turtle'.

Yes, Mr. Popo works for Kami, not Kame sennin.

But what does this have to do with anything?

In the original Dragonball series, Mr. Popo effortlessly out-maneuvered Son Goku, who was capable of running at hundreds of miles per hour and destroying dozens of bricks falling from a height of approximately eight meters before they could strike the ground.

As the original poster mentioned, Mr. Popo was also able to block punches from Super Saiya-jin Trunks and Goten, the former of which sent a large (approximately two meters in diameter) boulder rolling away with a light push.

I think Mr. Popo might be able to avoid Spiderman's webbing and deflect any punches or kicks, but I have no way of gauging his offensive ability.

Oh. Well, that's good enough. I simply though it was somewhat odd to make that comment from out of left field.

I hope we're operating on the assumption that it's the Japanese-version PoPo, since the English version automatically loses to having such a rediculous voice.

No way, DP, that voice is totally awsome. The decision to use that voice for him was almost as good as the decision to not have Goku voiced by Cam Clarke.

Anyway, I think the first order of business would be to compare Goten/Trunks' speed and strength with Spider-Man's, to determine if Spidey is notably stronger or weaker than those kids.

I thought Trunks defeated Frieza with ease, who could probably destroy a good portion of the planet with ease...

Well, Chibi trunks was that strong, too, wasn't he? He should already have been at the kill-Frieza level.
