Just got finished watching the first 10 episodes of this show with an obsessed friend, and it owns. I have the 3rd DVD (episodes 11-15) sitting on my desk right now. Besides that, any suggestions for learning things and the like?

I'll chime in a comical snort to that. If you think that gay superhero gundam is cool, watch Zeta. Its cold, dark and so much more entertaining.

Gundam Wing is a joke.

No, seriously, it is.

It's main villain is a laughable Char Aznable ripoff, Relena is a terrible parody combination of Frau Bow and Seyla Mass, and the G-Boys.... they're more ambiguously gay than the Ambigously Gay Duo.

Let's not get into the fact that the enemy mobile suits blow up if their freaking hand gets cut off, and the Gundams are immune to all damage unless the plot calls for it.

DP... sounds kinda like me while watching the first few episodes.

Yeah, the G-Boys are ambiguously gay, but I don't mind. I personally think that HeeroxDuo would be kinda cute. (come on, someone has to find Duo cute. GALE, ladies?)

I was amused by the unnecessary explosions from enemy mobile suits, and anything else for that matter.

Hellion: Zeta? I'll look into it.

VF5SS: I know about all the yaoi stuff (gay)... doesn't bother me a bit. In fact, it's a bit entertaining. My obsessed friend is also obsessed about that aspect of it, and I really don't mind... as I said, 'tis cool.

That's entirely possible. But GW is my introduction to it all, and I like it. WIthout seeing others, I have nothing to compare it to.

Zechs = Char. Hell, they even had similar nicknames. Red Lightning = Red Comet.
Heero = Amuro.

There are other things aswell.

Go watch the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy first... the series is a lot longer, but it is not available in Japanese. (Trust me, you want it in Japanese. They replaced all the sound effects with crappy stock stuff for the English dub.)

You want to watch it because the characters in Zeta are all in MSG, which takes place first.

I always found Wing to be poor, even without comparing it to other Gundam series.

Character's were mostly dislikable, with only a few exceptions - Noin
Too many plot holes
Mind boggling stupid tactics at times.

When comparing to other Gundam, it's worse. I did like the mecha designs though.

Wing is UC Lite. Twice the action, half the plot.

Get Mobile Suit Gundam, the original. If you can stand the dub (I can't), I would get the series, as it is better than the movie trilogy. I would recommend the movies though, as their available subbed, and tor the fact that the animation in the 3rd one was improved.
If you don't want MSG, got for the 08th MS Team.

i tried watching gundam wing when it first aired on cartoon network but couldn't get into it. it was too soap-operaish for my liking, and it seemed more of an attempt to convert a gundam series into a shojo anime than anything else. (i recall reading something in an anime magazine where they'd mentioned that they purposefully designed the male characters to be pretty-boyish to attract more female viewers, so it may have been a completely unintentional side effect.)

either way, it was far too dull overall. i'd strongly recommend watching the older mobile suit gundam or hell, even catching some of mobile fighter g gundam, despite its cheesiness.

Its true. Thats why every male main character is a bishie, and why there are official pics that are very suggestive.

Heh, they switched out the G-Armor for the Core Booster, but they still showed the G-Armor in the third movie. Silly editors.

I didn't mind the dub of the series, personally. I was just pissed Cartoon Network couldn't show it in its entirety. First with 9/11 and then when they took Adult Swim off of Saturdays. But they played 08th MS Team and 0083 at least six times each even though, in my opinion, they are the worst of the Side Stories.

What I always liked about the series over the movies is that they had all of the zany Mobile Armors (Zakrello, anyone?), and that crazy G-Armor. So many combinations. G-Bull, G-Fighter, G-Armor, so much fun.

Now, I love Zeta, but I feel it parrelled the original series way too much.

Wing, on the other hand, was fun the first time around, and I personally loved it when it first came out. But, when they aired the original Mobile Suit Gundam (something I had been waiting for for a while), I saw Wing as inferior to the original. Of course, my opinion of Wing dropped slightly after I went to a few message boards (G.com in particular).
