Farscape

Post by spongyblue »

I just read an article at ign.com about the farscape situation. It seems that the next 11 episodes they are will be crucial. If the average out at a 2.0 rating, the network may keep them on for a bit longer. From what I took out of it, it seems that the Producer, David Kemper, has the story resolved in 22 episodes, but he only has those 11 that are definant. So everybody watch so we can at least see the end of the whole story, if not a whole nother season.

Note: The final 11 episodes of season 4 had already been filmed prior to the cancellation.

You know hoe sci-fi channel has odd seasons? Well I think they are originaly supposed to come back on air in January or something like that. Well sci-fi channel apperently thinks they would be better of just aring all of the re-runs instead of new episodes so they dont have to spend anymore money. They have already started to tear down sets. Anybody correct me if im wrong on a few points.

There have been some conflicting rumor on exactly what's going on. It seems that Sci-Fi and the Farscape people both still have some interest in finishing the series. It's a matter of for how much and in what format. I beleive the sets have been taken down and placed in some sort of storage. Ultimate fate unknown.

Farscape is really the only reason I watch Sci fi channel. Besides MST3K on saturday morning and the occasional Twilight Zone, nothing else on that channel really amazes me. Their getting really dull in their selections compared to a couple of years ago when they usta show older sci-fi shows and what not.

I think thats everyone's reaction. I know I only watch Farscape and MST3K. I used to watch B5 but can't due to scheduking, besides it'll be out on DVD soon :D .

1. Farscape has been canceled. We're currently in the season haitus, which is typical of Scifi's fucked up scheduling. They cut the season in half because they think it won't get any decent viewers if it aired on-season. "Unrealized Reality" is merely the half-way point of season 4. The last half will be aired in January.

2. The sets are already torn down and either have been destroyed or placed in storage. Not to worry, pictures were taken before the destruction of the sets so they can re-build them if it gets picked up again.

3. The reason Farscape was cancelled is because Scifi asked to lower the price of production. EM TV (who owns the Jim Henson company) refused, and Scifi used a loophole in the contract to back out.

The loophole being based on the ratings which were a little bit lower than last year. Probably due to Sci-Fi constantly pissing off people who try to get into their shows just in time for them to be cancelled despite doing fairly well (ala Farscape).

I really have to wonder how expensive Farscape is to produce. I mean, the only NEW construction is new sets for different planets. Admittedly thats probably expensive, but wtf, are they building it out of solid gold? Christ.

Atleast its not as cheap as SG-1. Theyre so chinsy when it comes to that show that they dont even bother giving detail to Goauld ships, they just paint boxes with flat paint. Pathetic.

New creature effects, puppets, CGI, props, etc. It can add up to a lot. Especially the aliens because they are more advanced and more extensive from the cheap bumpy forehead Trek aliens.

That, and they have to make "stunt" puppets (ala Rygel) and maintain Pilot and the anamatronic Rygel. I imagine "Mr. Sparky" cost a bundle to make.
