Post by The Yosemite Bear »

senario A:

Replace the attacking Persains with Orcs, Goblins and Trolls at Thempylae

Senario B:

Have the Chosen Host of Sparta and Athens replace the defenders during the siege in The Twin Towers/Return of the King.

In both cases they the Spartans loose. They'll inflict heavy casualties on the Hosts of Mordor but they will be broken.

Seeing creatures out of myth will shake even the most resolved Spartan. And their numbers are extremely limited. Mordor can in both cases crush them through sheer numbers.

The Spartan problem throughout their history was that they focused too much on the skill of the individual and not enough on numbers. They ruthlessly weeded out people who could easily have served in support roles for the army, until by the time they finally fell the Spartan army numbered only a few thousand. In this case, the results would be very similar. The Spartan numbers simply are not great enough to withstand such an assault.

The Spartan army was completely destroyed when they fought the Persians. It took the Athenians and some fancy naval work to destroy a serious chunk of the invading force, which was then pushed back with Athenian forces. Sparta was not the best fighting force on the planet. They were up there, in the beginning, but after a few hundred years slave Messinian slave revolts weakened them.

Now, a good vs would be SPQR versus the said mythics.

SPQR means Senatus Populus Que Romanum aka Roman Republic/Empire. At its height prior to the betrayal of Julius Caesar. :P

Yeah, the Spartan are defiantly going to lose
