Anyone have the new Honor book yet?

Post by The Dark »

Bloody...I just found out about War of Honor 30 seconds ago! Someone tell me it's out already and it's good, and be honest when saying it!

It's been out for a month. And I'd be lying if I said it was. It was slow paced and boring for the most part. It spends too much time setting up the second half of the series.

I can send you an electronic copy if you'd like it.

The first fifteen chapters are alraedy up at honorharrington.com, I may get it just so I still have the complete set (except for one of the anthologies, which I can't find in local stores...)

I'd wait at least until it comes out in paperback. Of course the CD with all the Honorverse books on it and other goodies is a big offset for the crappy book.

I enjoyed it, but it was very much a transition book.

What is this book series about?
"This cult of special forces is as sensible as to form a Royal Corps of Tree Climbers and say that no soldier who does not wear its green hat with a bunch of oak leaves stuck in it should be expected to climb a tree"

The best description would be a female Hornblower in space series. Very very good but War of Honor... It just was slow. No action, no real driving force. Just wasn't too good.

I'd unhesitatingly recommend the series. I merely recommend that you follow it in chronological order. Buy War of Honor if anything for the CD that has every last honor-verse book on in a few different formats. If not wait until the paperback comes out.

Just so I don't die of anxiety before I get a chance to skim it at the FLBS, who is the new enemy?

The new enemy is actually a tie between 3:

1) The young Andermani Empire that wants to 'protect its border' with the Silesian Comfederacy.
2) The Republic of Haven
3) The High Ridge government

Guess which of the three is the most dangerous.

Though it is a fantasitc book there was one slight problem. On page 420 and later on page 700-someting (don't quite remember and at two other places) Weber quantifies some ship numbers, referring to the same ships on four separate pages, the first two times it's the same number the last two times it's a completely different number then the first two times. So question: How in the world do you miss place 24 to 32 mega-tons?
Soldiers Live. And wonder why.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to
demonstrate.
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the
flag."

War of Honor is even worse than Ashes of Victory, a thing I wouldn't have thought possible.
It's dull, boring, and uninteresting at its best.
700 pages of plot device/info dump for some 100 pages of poorly written battles.
Weber manages to shunt the most interesting things off to be told off-stage, his character development is nearly non-existing.
The CD was the only redeeming factor of the book.

I can't seem to get the book over here in the UK and was mainly looking for it for the CD. I have about 2/3 of the books in various forms (paper and electronic) but would LOVE it if someone could email me the missing ones in MS reader format to me. Any takers?
