What do you think of this theory, does it make sense or not? seems kinda weird to me but I am no expert:
The main problem with the zat is that each shot on the same target causes more damage then the last, at the same power level. (if it was not the same power level then the 2nd shot, no matter the target, would kill, not stun)
1st shot - Pain (on living target)
This shot "brakes" (well "cracks") some of the bonds holding together the atoms in the target. This is too little damage to kill, unless the target has not yet recovered from a prior hit (depending on condition/race/etc this could be a few secs, to a few days). This shot on a “dense” target, where there are more atoms, more closely packed together, would cause little damage, (maybe only “cracking” one or tow bonds)
2nd shot – Kills most human (near human) targets
This shot on a human would cause more damage to the cracked atomic bonds, braking them, (but not as much as needed for full vaporisation) and killing the target. The 2nd hit on a dense target would further crack/brake the bonds and depending on the total density of the target, could have the same effect as the 1st hit on a human (maybe something about as dense/strong as iron)
3rd shot – vaporisation of human (near human) targets
This shot fully brakes the remaining bonds, causing the atoms to freely move. Meaning full vaporisation of the target. This shot would cause level 2 damage to iron, and maybe level 1 damage to something like processed steel.
Denser targets would require a lot more hits in order to brake though. Something like the blast doors to the SGC gate room would take on the order of 30-50 Zat hits to make even a small hole (about 5-10cm in diameter) where as something like Diamond, would take perhaps 300 hits.
In theory, zat blasts *could* kill a planet, but the size and total density (in relation to a life form) would require a great deal of hits to the exact some target point. Something on the order of 10 google hits (1 google is 1 followed by 100 0’s)

Zat guns
Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not.
That's pretty much what I came up with. Though there were some differences. My idea was that there is some kind of 'charge' which is held in the body and slowly dissapates. The first hit can cause either severe pain or unconciousness: this is the first 'charge' simply interfering with the nervous system, and causing minor damage. The second shot, if done soon enough after the first, kills: this is the 'charge' becoming strong enough to damage the nervous system fatally. The third shot disintegrates: it somehow nullifies the forces holding your body together. It cannot vaporize it's targets, for the same reason phasers cannot. For instance, in the episode '1969', Jack used a Zat to destroy all the items they had with them when they came back, save for the Zat itself and a GDO (?). He was sitting not a meter from the box, and would certainly have been killed had it been vaporized. However, the box seemed to just shimmer a bit and dissappear. So the Zat must do something to it which causes the particles in the target to stop interacting with each other and disperse without interacting with their surroundings.

Hmm... I thought 1st Zat hit was Pain, Second was Stun, and Third was kill... thats what I always gathered from the episodes (Don't ever remember seeing a Jafaa turning to dust when Jack hits him three or more times with a Zat..)

The pain is the stun. Second kills. Third makes the thing disappear. I don't think Jack ever hit someone more than twice with one. It may be hard to tell because a shot is a longish stream of energy.Larz wrote:Hmm... He does it the first time zats appear, after that they only do it again once, and then only on an inanimate object. The zats later on seem to have become a stun gun of sorts. instead of juddering about in pain jaffa lapse into unconciousness.

Thats what I'm thinking about, guess I have watch to early episodes to see some Jaffa turn to dustNecronLord wrote:He does it the first time zats appear, after that they only do it again once, and then only on an inanimate object.
