William Shatner's Books

Post by David »

They would have been perfect for the movies following Generations, instead Paramount screweed it up. Why? My theory is that Shatner's books gave a perfect ending to the Borg threat, and Paramount wanted to draw out that threat in case Voyager fell to pieces. Which it did. Without the Borg ( and let us not forget Jerri Ryan and the catsuit) Voyager would never have been able to get past 5 seasons. This is another example of how Paramount messed up the Star Trek saga, and why so many former trekkies are now warsies. Has anyone else read Wlliam's books, and does it piss you off that Paramount completely ignored them?

I've never read any of Shanter's books, but the impression I get from the SF fans who have is that calling the things Shatner actually wrote 'books' is to twist the meaning of the word beyond the reasonable limits of the English language.

Much if not most of "Shatner's" books are ghostwritten.

***Spoilers For the Return***

Well in the second book set shortly after Generations, Kirk gets resurected by the Romilans and Borg who have formed an alliance.

Long story short the gang (TNG and TOS and maybe a DS9 member or two)
go to the boprg homeworld and destroy the Borgs central node (controls the entire collective.) however Kirk dies blowing this device up.

Thats the Jist of it anyway.

He then goes onto defeat the Mirror universe Alliance and save the federation from a killer plague.

Like a comic book character, you just can't kill James Kirk in Shatner's novels.

Although the end of Preserver makes it quite clear he's through. :)

I did like the Shatner novels, but IIRC he didn't do as much work as the Reeves-Stephenses in the actual writing.

I think I know what you folks mean by "ghostwritten" but could someone please give a short explanation of the term.

Two diffrent verions come to mind, One is where you give somone the general plot, story and they write it for you, the other is where you claim to write a book but did not some else did nearly all of it

Damn Kirk is good. He dies, but really was hanging out in some weird nexus, dies, then writes himself back!
