Who most deserves the title Dark Lord?

Post by Ender »

Simple enough question - which character, through acts and abilities, is most deserving of the title of being the Dark Lord? We see the title tossed about in a number of series, to a number of characters. But who is the truely vile creature who deserves it the most?

Melkor of middle earth, sauron was just one of his best minion's, he created nearly all that is foul and twisted in ME by twisting it at it's very creation.

If not then Palpatine for making Vader the so called "dark lord" look positevely angelic by comparison with ihs scheming and manipulation of the galaxy itself.

Yes, I have never encountered anyone as devious and corrupting as Palpatine, although Melkor and his spawn come a close second.

As I recall, some comic book guy, Thanos or something, killed half the universe for no reason whatsoever.

Thanos the dark titan, he killed them to gain favour with his love death.
He gained omni\toti-potence many times but always lost it because of subconsciously wanting to lose.
If you want someone who actually has minion's and is very similiar to Thanos then Darkseid (DC comic's) would be your best bet.

Keyser Soze- Its one thing to be able to kill half the galaxy if you do not know or care that much about it. But it is another to kill your own wife and child to show your enemies what will power really is.

The Crimson King from the Dark Tower series would be a good contender.

Alternatively, how about Saint of Killers from Preacher? He's not exactly bad guy material per se, but in terms of who he's answerable to, he even outranks Satan (as demonstrated by his killing of Satan being one of his first acts. Along with causing Hell to freeze over).

The crimson king before he became a insane nut with a grenade in the last DT book would be a possible contender.

The saint sound's like a killer and bad-ass but he isn't a lord.

A vote for Melkor, the orginal Dark Lord :) followed closely by Sauron.
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

He's not a dark lord, he has no desires to dominate, rule, be evil or anything. He was just eternally hate-filled and wanted to rest.

Satan from the Incarnations of Immortality is a Dark Lord with a twist. He's evil, but he wants to have a new God brought in because he's bored that the current one won't play (very simplified and somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but essentially what Satan's ultimate goal is).

"Hi, Anubis, this is your agent, you're playing it way over the top, can you get serious please?"

Was Anubis ever called a Dark Lord? I don't believe he was.

Anyway, I say Vader. Palpatine was too cackling psycho for my Dark Lord vote.

It was Anubis raiding Dr. Doom's warehouse that put me against him. I miss the Goa'uld who had personal connections to the team to go with their ambition.

Its a toss up between Vader, Palpatine and Melkor for me.

I personally think Anubis's actions were a result of his half-ascended state.

I mean, come on, that's got to get on your nerves eventually.

As for title of Dark Lord, I'd have to see either
Lord Vader, Palpatine (Star Wars), with Scorpious (Farscape) as a runner up (there has to be more to that guy then what we saw, ALOT more), with honorable mentions to Dr. Doom, Megatron (G1), and off course, Apothesis (SG1)
