Since your normal adventuring party doesn't have more than 6 characters... You should be able to take out a significant portion of the party before they have had even one round of combat...

But this requires disciplined players and a skilled GM.

I primarrilly like to have a good story, sort of.
I joined into a midlevel party, where everyone was playing a second generation character. (Annoying being the onlyone with out a godlike parent to yell at you, or to make things easier). So I sat down with the GM and created my character's parents, a witch, an Evil Fighter, a mysterious set of Cursed gear, and people attacking the party for something my character Allegedly did (Oh did I mention that Evil twin brother, who I can't let die, because I would die too) We had a much more interesting campaign.
