They are a little quicker than an ISD so that will make it harder. In the instance where support craft are in operation the tractors might be better put to use trying to fling around fighters that get through your own fighters. That or trying to deal with the GHC's Janus and Oracle sensor drones.consequences wrote:That's okay, the Sovereign and the Victory are terribly slow at manuevring, so it all evens out.

It does however have to maneuver close enough to grab someone. Most of these ships aren't going to be trying to ram the ISD since it is "slightly" more massive but rather relying on other tactics.consequences wrote:The ISD has tractor beams covering most arcs, the ship doesn't need tomanuever to grab someone.

Re: Ram them until they give up!
Sounds like a scenario suspiciously weighted to give the GHC a nasty advantage (since the GHC has no shields to begin with, and it has incredible lateral acceleration and maneuverability.)Renewed_Valour1 wrote:The list of ships below has been deposited in our solar system to face off. All the ships have had their weapons, FTL drive, and shields disabled. However other systems like "towing gear", AG fields, and other similar systems that are considered nonweapons are operational. The ships have to still destroy each other through any other means they can come up with and the last one still standing wins.
Ships:
Victory Destroyer (B5)
Sovereign (ST)
ISD
Glorious Heritage Cruiser
Battlestar
Scenario 1: They have no support craft
Scenario 2: All the support craft are fully operational.
The Battlestar is mostly unaffected, since it too has no shields to begin with and it can withstand impacts from enemy fighters.
In either scenario, the Sovereign or the Victory get creamed pretty quickly. Neither has the mass or acceleration necessary to get away from the ISD's tractor beams. The battlestar has the disadvantage of being fairly centralized in terms of it's commmand and control. The ISD doesn't have this disadvantage.
In the second scenario, the ISD wins hands-down. It's support craft include fighters, interceptors and bombers (which may or may not include shielded craft such as gunboats and T/As.)
In the first scenario you will have the GHC going up against either a heavily damaged Battlestar, or a heavily damaged ISD.

The ISD's wedge shape and straightline accel should give it a small advantage over the Battlestar, but yea, this is heavily bias towards the GHC.

Well, the GHC is less in a position to actually do much damage to anyone without support craft, but at the same time they're also going to be able to be untouchable by anyone else as things stand now (and as XaLev mentioned, there are ways they can fight...) They certainly have an easier time of things than the rest, though, and the limitations hurt them far less than the rest...
Whats really biased is where the ship complements are full. The Andromeda's attack drones also double as ready-made kinetic warheads with up to a gigatons worth of KE (not to mention all that momentum) - and slip fighters make some ready-made ramming tools as well. Without shields almost everyone is dead meat - and the ISD is an uncertainty as well.
What I find really irksome about the lack of shields is that it also means nav deflectors are gone, which puts a TREMENDOUS crimp on acceleration and velocity for the others (Again the GHC still has its gravity field projectors which are ALSO its nav deflectors) - so they have an unfair advantage here.

That really depends. According to Paul Woodmansee when they have the AG fields operating at full capacity a GHC only has a mass of 245g. Assuming the AG fields can't break her away from a tractor beam anyone who grabs he. She doesn't have much mass to prevent her from being thrown around. In addition with a mass that small ramming isn't exactly an effective tactic.Connor MacLeod wrote:Well, the GHC is less in a position to actually do much damage to anyone without support craft, but at the same time they're also going to be able to be untouchable by anyone else as things stand now.
That one is my fault for not being clear. I meant combat shields are gone only rather than any of the nav deflectors.Connor MacLeod wrote:What I find really irksome about the lack of shields is that it also means nav deflectors are gone, which puts a TREMENDOUS crimp on acceleration and velocity for the others (Again the GHC still has its gravity field projectors which are ALSO its nav deflectors) - so they have an unfair advantage here.
