Which is why we wont be using solar sails powered by lasers to get to alpha centauri - because we dont have that much power. And I doubt that we'll be reacing 40% of c anytime soon, no matter how much modern technology we use.
gravity, theres a difference between theoretical possibilities and technical ones. theoretically its possible to build building a hundred miles high and we could do it, if we had duranium or some other magical alloy, but we dont. The light intensity on the focusing lens/mirror of said 1 million gigawatt laser would melt the lens/mirror in under a second. Most likely vaporize it before it turned liquid.
