ST cloaking devises *(Warning Spoilers)*
Its a given that a ST cloaked ship can't fire it's weapons when cloaked.
It can fly at warp speed, and, logical assumption, also use it's navigational deflector at warp. One can assume you can also have your shields up.
All energy intensive applications of ship power resources.
How much energy or power does it take to launch a friggin' torpedo?
There was ONE PROTOTYPE the Klingons had that could fire when cloaked in The Undiscovered Country...no advancements since then?

Re: ST cloaking devises
Maybe, but at reduced strength, I'd imagine. Chang's BOP took heavy damage from the first photorp hit in ST6 (enough that the bridge went up in flames).Enola Straight wrote:Its a given that a ST cloaked ship can't fire it's weapons when cloaked.

Shields are not necessarily energy intensive. The idea that shielding must consume constant power proportionate to its blocking/reradiating capacity is a common misconception. Warp would presumably require lots of power, but you can have a very poor cloak at warp speed and get away with it, because any radiation signature you emit will be smeared across enormous distances by your speed, and will therefore be very faint. All energy intensive applications of ship power resources.
They have to load it up with antimatter, which requires high-powered forcefields in order to transport the antimatter and inject it into the torp. That's why they're morons for not using nukes instead. How much energy or power does it take to launch a friggin' torpedo?
Obviously not. There was ONE PROTOTYPE the Klingons had that could fire when cloaked in The Undiscovered Country...no advancements since then?

Remember the first time the cloaked BoP attacked? They could sense the torpedo right before it launched. It was probably because it was right under them, but the fact remains that weapons can be sensed before they are fired. Perhaps the act of charging a weapon ruins the cloak effect.
Alternatly, a cloak could be designed to supress all particles the ship emits, which would make it difficult for it to emit weapons fire.

Just a note, the new Romulan ship seems to be able to fire through its cloak.

Incidentally, there's also the matter of improvements in cloaking technology. "Balance of Terror" mentioned something about tracking the Romulans with 'motion sensors'. In "The Neutral Zone" (TNG):
Picard: "Mr. Data, are your sensors picking up anything? You should be detecting a disturbance..."
Data: "Negative, sir."
La Forge: "We watned to know if they improved their cloaking device. Guess we have our answer."
implying that they did have a method for tracking cloaked ships before losing contact with the Romulans some years past, and that the cloaking device had been since improved.
Improvements in sensor technology may force the Klingons and Romulans to continually modify their cloaking technology, and it is possible that these modifications may be more power-intensive, rendering a fire-while-cloaked system ineffective.
And the shields are most probably at limited or no strength while cloaked, as Kirk was able to temporarily disable a Klingon BOP in ST3 with a pair of torpedoes (a shot that would likely have been the prelude to a death blow, had the Enterprise been at full strength). Riker also says in "The Neutral Zone" that the Romulans would be vulnerable for the time during which the Romulans are decloaking. In Generations, the BOP's cloak activating caused their shields to shut down.

Oh good grief. That is nothing and you know it. Anyone who has seen the trailers KNOWS what I am talking about. How the fuck can I be spoiling a movie when I am only saying what I have SEEN from the goddamned trailers? I don't see people bitching about seeing the scenes in LOTR.
Shit, give it a break people. Hell, the fact that the new Romulan ship fires while cloaked has been talked about in SEVERAL threads.

Reman ship has shields and can fire while cloaked. And people, this has been on the trailer, which was in a thread that has been on for days before it finally went under. Hundreds of people here probably know it already by now.

About this so called "spoiler," that is as much as a spoiler as Shinzon being Picards clone, the feddies having jeeps and the bridge of the E-E getting a hole blown in it.
Anyways, keep in mind that Spock discovered a weakness with the BoP prototype and with the help of Bones, managed to rig a torpedo that could lock onto the plasma emissions of the BoP and hit it. So, obviously, if this could be done more than 150 years ago, then I think it could still be done by future generations.

Because, of course, nobody in their right mind tries to see as little of a new movie coming out as possible, so as to maintain any level of surprise when they go in to actually go watch the movie. And of course no freak of nature would think "omg they showed the Enterprise ramming another ship" and want to not see anything more regarding the movie. (Paramount pulled another Star Trek 3, the fuckers)

Do they expect us to be sorry to see the E-E go? I couldnt care less... Seeing the original Enterprise go, that was emotional. We've seen the E-E a whole 2 MOVIES, not exactly much sentimental value.Uraniun235 wrote:Because, of course, nobody in their right mind tries to see as little of a new movie coming out as possible, so as to maintain any level of surprise when they go in to actually go watch the movie. That's different. It was supposedly built from the original spaceframe of the TOS Enterprise, so it was basically the same ship. There was a genuine emotional attachment to that ship. Who the fuck cares about the E-E?Alyeska wrote:Actually we only saw the Refit Enteprise two movies before it went to.

I certainly don't. It has no soul and there's no reason to care about it whatsoever. Hell even the Enterprise-D has more soul than that- and it was a deathtrap.
Although for comparison, when the Enterprise-D died it's ultra-cheap, meaningless, pathetic, Riker-induced, death, I didn't give two shits. So that's how much I care about the E-E.
