Best dogs in sci-fi

Post by Raxmei »

Many myths and stories incorporate dogs. Some of those dogs are real wonder dogs. Which one is the top dog?

One candidate from Tolkien's Middle Earth is Huan, hound of (if I recall correctly) Luthien. He easily defeated Sauron at the height of his power. Nice doggy.

From the Norse side of things we have Fenris. I don't know much about him, except that he's up there with the gods in power.

The three-headed dog Cerberus guards Hades in Greek myth.

That's all I can think of for now. Please contribute your ideas on who is the greatest dig ever.
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

Haun. The dog can speak (infrequently) and understand all that is said in his prescence.

Huan, Wolf Hound of Valinor. Definetly one of the coolest and most loyal dogs in all of sci fi and fantasy.

1 ) It's Fifth Imperium, not Fifth Empire. It's an important distinction in-universe.
2) Tinkerbell is a baseline Labrador. You're thinking of her Uplifted Lab/Rottweiler children. There are ten, IIRC.

I nominate them too, as well as Ein from Cowboy Bebop.

Orson from Dean Koontz Fear Nothing, & Sieze the Night, smarter then any of his humans in his Lovecraft influenced little universe.

I just remembered one:

"Master", the silvery form slind across the floor, blasting another Dalek with his Muzzel Laser, Sarah Jane Smith looked around the corner to see the Doctor. He was in a different incarnation from the ones she knew, but she couldn't help but recognize him.

Does K-9 count?

Arcanine from Pokemon.

It's intelligent, Tiger-striped, and big(and fast) enough to ride. Oh, and it breathes Fire.

Which would make the Pokedog a bitch to Huar, The Fenris Wolf, or Cerebrus, hell even Fluffy.

...And?...

Last time I checked, this wasn't a who's-more-powerful wankfest.

Think about this: Which one do you think you could walk down the street with and not get stares, shrieks of terror, guns pointed at you, etc...

Actually, a well-trained Arcanine could give Fluffy a headache.

Ein from Cowboy Bebop is definately one of the coolest and best Sci-Fi dogs.

But the top dog is Tinkerbell. How many dogs do you know of that are expert ambassadors to hostile aliens?
