Sovereign vs, Glorious Heritage Cruiser
Both ships spot each other at a range of 8 light minutes and move to engage.
How does the premier fighting ship of the Federation fare against the Bright Star of the High Guard fleet?
Or a more realistic question just how many Sovs does it take to handle a GHC?

It doesn't. The GHC wins. The GHC's firepower is superior, and its abilities are more impressive.

what
First of all there an issue about detection, A SSD or any ISD could detect a vessel up to three light hours out ( and this is in real time). It would be no no small matter for it to perform a micro hyper jump to within range of turbo laser, proton/concussion missions and blast it to carbon soot....
The Sovereign is going to have to do some fancy shooting with it's phaser arrays if it wants to survive this encounter. I think intercepting 40 20 megaton missles moving at .9c is a little hard for them. It takes around 7-11 seconds for a Galaxy-class to lock onto a single object moving at high speeds. Most of the GHC's missles would make it through. 1 volley of missles would probably at least cripple the sovereign while the GHC's interceptors would take down a great deal of the Sovereign's torpedos although some would make it through and do a fair amount of damage but the GHCs can take a severe beating, a few 180 megaton q-torps and a few 64 megaton photons aren't going to take it out. However at long range the Sovereign does actually have a fire power advantage but it isn't going to be able to shoot down very many of those OM-5s.

That's only if they fire for 1/8 of a second. A full second long salvo would mean 320 OM-5s.SCVN 2812 wrote:The Sovereign is going to have to do some fancy shooting with it's phaser arrays if it wants to survive this encounter. Also they are kintetic missles for the most part somthing the Federation shields don't stop and thier hulls generaly don't take well towards
I'm predicting Warp-Core Breah and an easy win for the GHC

C'mon guys, if the Soverrerign made a too steep turn, or Geordi accidently bumps into the warp core....we have a breach!!!Mr Bean wrote:Also they are kintetic missles for the most part somthing the Federation shields don't stop and thier hulls generaly don't take well towards

the GHC cruiser would have the soverigan for lunch, it is close to the firepower of the ISD. The GHC can probrobly with it's anti-proton cannons and massive volleys of kinetic kill missiles. heck the GHC would be able like the imperator to destory entire federation fleets by itself.

Not quite Starfury Remeber unlike the Empire an Warp Strifing is acutaly a very vaible option for use VS the HG as they lack anything in the way of shielding besidse Phyiscal meaning somthing like a Defiant Class droping in on its nose and unleasing A spread of Quantum Torps would be very bad for the GHC
High-Guard has the Card of Firepower and FTL Speed
While the Federation ship has the card of manvrabilty and quick(into FTL) if not faster FTL travel
Acutal on second though a GHC VS Sovereign would be a intresting fight, As you could pop the weapon's bay write GHC Killer on the Quantum Torps and Like-wise do the same for the GHC Missles
Both can run away from each others missles though one needs to close in, One has fighters meaning closing in is danagrous
On second revesion I describe this as a knife fight, Ducking in and out any hit will seriously through the balance in your direction of winning so he or she who hits first will win.
Call it a knife fight

GHC
[One thing to remember about the GHC is that we've never really seen what one can really do in peak condition with a full crew and pilots for all of its fighters. It seems to me that the GHC can dish out a lot more force than what has been visually demonstrated by a Sovereign Class starship.
However, I think the reall advantage that the Sovereign Class starship has is its FTL sensors and comunications. That darn speed of light limitting factor in most of GHC tech has already been shown (and bitched about by Captain Hunt) to be a problem/annoyance. This means the Andromeda (GHC) would be fairly vulnerable to the "Picard Manuver™", at least enough so that the Sovereign class ship could probably get in a good first strike. After that they better get out of range quickly.

Problem being that I doubt a Sovereign could come close to crippling a GHC in a first strike. Meanwhile the AI will immediately cut loose with AP cannons, PDLs, missiles, and the kitchen sink if it's detectable within seconds or less of it detecting the Sovereign appearing in real space.Tsyroc wrote:[That darn speed of light limitting factor in most of GHC tech has already been shown (and bitched about by Captain Hunt) to be a problem/annoyance. A GHC would walk all over a Sov for maneuverability even though the GHC is a lot larger. Even the Defiant would have a hard time pulling off half the maneuvers the GHC can and has done.Mr Bean wrote:High-Guard has the Card of Firepower and FTL Speed

As for FTL speeds had the Voyager been a slipstream capable vessel she would have been back in Federation space before the end of the first episode.

I think you are right about that. The range on the Sovereign's weapons doesn't seem to be that great so it would have to get too close to the GHC and I don't think it would take much planning on the part of the GHC crew to overcome their ships sensor limitations, and I'm not certain they'd even have to.

It would certainly be fun to see this one play out. I wonder if the GHC's AG fields would cause problems for Federation transporters? I'd really like to see how the Feds would deal with the internal defenses of a GHC
Of course a GHC's Lancers would just stomp all over any Federation troops even without Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumb.
