We've got a What is thread for the Culture, but what about the Xeelee?

Well, what do we know?

They are THE dominating species in the universe.
They manipulate space-time itself as they please, as they do with natural constants.
They've built the Ring, one of THE most massive structure ever in sci-fi.
They have handguns capable of destroying planets, suns, et al. Of course, they have other things capable of that, too.
Their FTL and STL speeds are just very, very high.
Their building material is one of the toughest ever.
They exist as a Vacuum Diagram, a species without begin or end. And as the AntiXeeelee stated, this is only a paradox to us

They use galaxies and strings as weapons and building material...

And many, many more fantastic things

Whats AntiXeelee?

An Artifical Creatrue made by Xeelee. It is antiXeelee that complete the last task of Xeelee to send all the seedpods across the universe back to the beginning of the universe.

Why someone would created such a godly race with so many paradox is beyond me. If a television series was made out of this I would give it 2 weeks at most...

If they have no begin or end why do they rely on technology?
What need would you have for a handgun capable of destroying planets? Destroying stars seem pretty stupid. Is this that series where they have some crap protecting them from future time travellers?

Xeelee is mostly used as a back-drop to the human certraled stories set in that universe. Now those humans while still pretty darn advanced, are not even close to the slightest of what the Xeelee are capable.

But you are right, this story can't never be make into TV series. Baxter aren't exactly a good storyteller.

They have no beginning or end in the sense that they just Suddenly spring into being at the beginning of the universe. and sudderly disappear near their end. IT looks to ohters as if they have neither beginning or end. But in fact they actaully travel BACK in time.

The handgun, Starbreaker, was their common ship board "weapon". It just happened to be a modulal aspect of the ship, which are about the size of the human handgun.

As for destroying stars, that is because they used those star-material to build the Ring.

About the protection thingy, I guess you are thinking about the whoel Dr. WHo serise and the Timelords.

The Xeelee were said to have traveled back in time and enhanced their own evolution. They did this repeatedly, and their civilization has existed for billions of years.

The only real threat to them are the Photino Birds, which we know almost nothing about.

Important to note might be that the AntiXeelee is "composed" of quantum wave function, his conciousness spanning the whole universe.

Those are only paradoxes to us, as the AntiXeelee stated. It's perfectly normal for the Xeelee.
And they have those guns, of course just because they can make them, but more importantly because they use stars, complete galaxies as raw material for the building of the Ring, the Xeelee's sole purpose in this universe.
