Would this be a good sci-fi show if it didn't have anything to do at all with Star Trek?

It would be a bit better if it used all original characters and organizations. But the problems run far deeper then that.

NO. The writing would still suck either way with or without ST in the name.Lord Poe wrote:Would this be a good sci-fi show if it didn't have anything to do at all with Star Trek?

I disagree. It suffers from, "Human beings are ape-like oafs who shouldn't be allowed to explore space without adult {insert more intelligent and knowledgable race here} supervision..." style of writing. It is both painfully rehashed and boring.Lord Poe wrote:Would this be a good sci-fi show if it didn't have anything to do at all with Star Trek?

I can't say either way. I think there are elements that would be better if it didn't have ties to Trek. Certainly there wouldn't be violations of Trek continuity to piss people off and annoy them. But, I also think that some of Trek links are what some people like and are probably what keep them interested in the show.
I think the quality of the show would probably be about the same. Maybe without Trek ties it might really try to push the envelope (like they keep saying they are going to do) but I don't think they'd go half as far as Farscape has gone.

Definitely not due to the management.

It would still suck as much, but people would just ignore it and it'd be canseled in weeks. The ST ties not only keep it on the air, but pisses off most of it's fan base, and allows them to save thousands on writers that are creative.

I agree there, the fact that it is ST is probably the only reason it is still on air.anarchistbunny wrote:It would still suck as much, but people would just ignore it and it'd be canseled in weeks.
