nBSG: Fourth Season WILL BE Final Season...

Post by Spanky The Dolphin »

Just read this over at the IMDb, and felt it didn't warrant resurrecting the previous thread on the subject:
'Battlestar Galactica' To Blast Off Into the Archives

Cult TV show Battlestar Galactica will end early next year, the program's makers have confirmed. The final fourth season of the sci-fi show will be broadcast on U.S. cable network Sci Fi Channel from November. Executive producers Ronald Moore and David Eick released a statement, saying, "This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there - we're going out with a bang."

I'm guessing that Eick's earlier statement to the contrary was simply damage control until the situation was completely finalised.

No big surprise there. When your stars are talking about it being the last season, it usually is.

Hey, Firefly didn't get 4 seasons. Good for them for not stretching it out. Going out with 4 good seasons is better than going 8 seasons and having people say, "Well it started out good but then ..."

I'm relieved to hear this. Hopefully they'll spend the whole season drawing to a dramatic and fulfilling finale. And please, for the love of Cylontology, tie up all the loose ends.

Yeah, it's definately better to know a season in advance, "Oh, you're not getting another season after this."

Yeah I figured as much, with the way season 3 ended they were definatly going to be hitting the final stretch. At least this is for the best anyways and its nice to know this far ahead of time.

Personally I would have preferred two more 13 episode seasons over one more 24 episode one. But I'm fussy.

I'm glad that theyve got the end in sight. It will (hopefully) make for much more solid and focused writing than how the middle of season three seemed. And knowing when and where the climax will take place helps the writers give it proper buildup and resolution.

Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

the way they do the mid-season break anymore, you'll basically get 2 12 episode seasons... And a separate $40 box set for each.

According to the quote in the OT, the fourth season will begin in November. First time I have read that. I have only read that the season will begin in early 2008.

They only did that for the Region 1 DVD release of Season Two because Universal wanted to take advantage of that season's extended midseason break. Season Three is getting a complete set in August.
