I haven't seen the whole of the new season, I'm in the US and we've only got the Christmas special and the first episode so far. But I'm going to give the new character a shot and not make up my mind.

Thats what I liked about the character. She starts out being very hard to like, even for the Doctor, but by the end she grows on you and you start liking her.

I guess the thing that really stood out was how different she was from Rose. Where Rose was "Save me Doctor!"; Donna was "You call this a rescue?"

I hope your right and they quickly break Martha out of the Rose role.

Donna might work, she might not. The problem with that is you rapidly get into Princess Leia territory where she just comes off as bitchy and ungrateful. I think Donna came off that way big time and while the character is salvagable (and to some extent was at the conclusion) I'm not entirely sure I would want to watch her for a season or more.

They either did or didn't at this point, seeing as how she's being replaced. There's definitely potential and it sounds like they intended to create a some what similar but still different character. Either way I'm not taking Stark's word for it.

It'd be interesting if the Doctor started picking people who could rescue themselves more often. Now if they can manage to do something like that with Donna. . . .

Martha'll be returning midway through Season 4 apparently. So she's not being completely replaced. Though so far she's not quite as bad as Rose in some areas. (Admittedly I've only watched one episode with her in it).
