S.M. Stirling Online

Post by Battlehymn Republic »

Has anyone realized that S.M. Stirling is an active online participant on alternate history groups such as SHWI or AlternateHistory.net, and has responded to comments against the Draka timeline before? His username is joatsimeon.

Yes. Back in the 20th centruy he was a very active participant on rec.arts.sf.written. He's left that particular area, but he's still out and about and I hear he has his own yahoo group. He's probably at Baen's Bar too, though I haven't bothered to check.
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

There are some questions I'd love to put to him.
So Mr. Stirling, how exactly did the Draka conquer Eurasia and not overextend themselves? I'd really like to know, because the way I figure it if I could learn whatever technique they used I could take over the whole US with a few dozen men.

I think one guy there summed up the Draka very well.
Will to conquer the world? Sure. Manpower, industry, and martial capability to conquer the world? Fughgetaboutit. Except of course in a world where everyone is is magically turned into an utter wimp, which is exactly what he did.

I still place them along with some other books in: I read that in high school, and haven't bothered with them since then. (except to enjoy David Drake's two curb stomps of them, along with Pournel and Stirling's own Curb stomp in Co-Dominion verse)
