I tried to pick it up at Borders yesterday, but got out of work too late. Hopefully I'll get out earlier tonight.
And if Jack Featherston marries his assistant (Lulu?) and then commits suicide as U.S. troops take Richmond, I won't read another Turtledove book again, ever. That's taking the historical analogy too far.
Well, unless he comes out with another Videssos book. Those are pure gold. And since I woefully behind on my Byzantine history, it all reads as new to me.

I liked them, but the writing got really repetitive for me. I think I stopped reading right before WWII started.
I just want to know who gets nuked.

Stuart: The only problem is, I'm losing track of which universe I'm in.

Finished reading it at the bookstore, it stretches plausibility too far and contains far too much filler.
Spoilers below.
The CSA getting their nuke first when they're been bombed to hell and had many of their scientists and engineers killed? Right, sure. They also get a new super tank design when all their factories have been knocked out? Uh-huh. The entire CSA isn't made to glow in the dark after Philadelphia gets nuked? Right.
One thing's for sure, the Confederate masturbation fantasy is up to the usual Turtledove standards.

The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects
I'm not sure why people choose 'To Love is to Bury' as their wedding song...It's about a murder-suicide

yup, can't argue with the presence of his usual CSA-wank that, especially the CSA getting the bomb first,
But I thought it wrapped up most things rather well, and
Cassius shooting Featherston was priceless. I got a feeling of vindication reading it.
The surrender of Jorge Rodriguez at Appomattox, and Martin's platoon doing a modern version of Sherman's March to the Sea were also good.
ditto Potter beginning his memoirs.
Mentions of Carsten's sun-sensitivity were near nonexistent as well. (thank god)
