Ultramarines novel query (spoilers)
I just read both Warriors of Ultramar and Nightbringer and my question is about Sgt. Pavonis. At the end of Warriors, Pavonis's bionic arm gets wrecked and seemingly repairs itself. Is there any explanation as to how his arm is capable of self repair? Does he have some sort of Necrodermis/C'tan ultra phase bionic arm? Any ideas, even speculation would be helpful!

It's been about a year since I read that, but I seem to recall the explination coming in the third section of the book. Basically it's the living metal that was part of a ship that crash landed on the planet they were on millenia prior.

Really? I thought it was made by the locals at the end of book 2 from living metal as well.. need to dig my book out and double checkAyrix wrote:very close spartan but not quite. I finished reading Dead Sky Black Sun a few days ago, and apparently when the nightbringer cut off his arm, some of his essence was left on the wound.
When the sergeant got his bionic, it got nightbringer all over it and went all terminator 2.

I actually believe its because a part of the nightbringer (his scythe) touched the sergeants arm/stump for a split second.
Good point, I guess to proximity of his bionic arm to the stump could be the cause. If that is the case then he could ahve a self healing stormbolter or whatever grafted in the future.

That's how I read the entire situation. Basically the Necron Lord's entire body is Necrodermis (including the scythe, which I think is largely just an extension of his bound form.) The scythe, as I recall, ,actually was what hacked the arm off. In the process it would naturally infect the wound. While it does not appear to do anything to organic flesh (though given what C'tan Phase Swords can do I see no reason why such an infection couldn't harm organic matter if it wished or was ordered to) it certainly DID infect the mechanical bits, and this makes Necrodermis every bit as insidious as Tyranid or Ork Spores, or Chaos taint.Ayrix wrote:So i guess we can infer that the presence of the nightbringer's "aura" if you will can confer many properties of the necrodermis/living metal to other metallic objects?

Imagine just a little Necrodermis getting loose on a Forge World and infecting it.
Another nasty implication of this - if Nerodermis weaponry "infects" a target, imagine what harm it could do if the C'tan (or other Necron, assuming they could) could order done - it could eat/slice/rip/tear/crush any part of the body inside quite easily, and from a distance. (I'm reminded of Inquisitor Thaddeus' phase sword in "Chapter War".)
