Gandalf :D
That's because Gandalf is a total bad-ass :)
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

I thought it was "Mecha-Striesand"? that would make more sense, considering she turned into a faux-mechagodzilla

Torgo, of course! :P

No, seriously, who else but Godzilla? I recently rewatched GODZILLA 2000 on TV just a week or so ago and was pleased all over again by the respectful way in which he was presented. Truly a force of nature. Some of his early night scenes, striding through the water or ruins, you could have replaced him with a monstrous tornado and it still would have looked just right. All this awe for a guy in a rubber suit. Gotta love it.

The Alien in the original ALIEN movie scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. After that, while not truly a 'monster', it was the T rex in JURASSIC PARK attacking the kids in the rain that had me cowering down in my theatre seat the first time. Both succeeded in convincing me that they were REAL, even though I knew darn well they couldn't be, and still look great years later.
