WH40K question

Post by Lord Revan »

I'll make this simple as possible, what forces were present during the siege of the imperial palace at the end of the Horus herecy?

I know that at least Imperial fists, Blood angels and adeptus custodes were present of the loyalist and Emperor's children, Sons of horus and World Eaters of the traitors but there was probably more which I don't know.
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Well mostly based on the old Horus Herest Board Game: -

Imperial forces
3 Space marine Legions (Blood angels, Imperial Fists, White Scars) all with there primarchs.
Adeptus Custodius
The Emperor
Various Adeptus Mechanicus forces including at least 3 titan legions and Kane the leader of the loyalist Mechanicus forces
Various Imperial army forces (the board game has over a dozen armies)
The entire earth planatary defence force
Armies of Adaptus arbitus
The sky fortress (A dark age of technology flying vehicle capable of transporting over a legion of space marines at a time.

All in all given that earth was a hive world possibly several billion soldiers in total.

Chaos Forces
5 space marine legions (Sons of Horus, Emperors children, Death guard, Worldeaters, Thousand Sones)
At least 4 titan legions
Adeptus Mechanicus forces and war machines
Demon armies
A huge number of imperial army and cultist forces
A number of the imperial army and planetary defence forces turn traitor as the chaos landings started and swiched side to Chaos further boosting there numbers

The chaos forces largely outnumbered the loyalist forces so possibly 10s of billions of forces.

As stated most of this stuff comes from an old board game released over a decade a go so it might have been retconed by now. The newer horus heresy books more of less back this up.

Some of the above just come from game features of the board game (particularly the flying fortress) and each type of force is left vague as to what is contains i.e. no idea how big an imperial army is.

The newer fluff seems to indicate the imperial army forces were smaller than indiciated above as they always seem to refer to space marine forces as being the important factors although this could just be a measure of how much better a space marine is relative to a normal soldier.

The White Scars where there too. They pretty much just led guerilla attacks against the Chaos Hordes.

The Iron Warriors, Leigo Mortis, Death Guard...the Word Bearers may have been there in some shape or form.

Oh yeah, the Sisters of Silence where there, but were fighting daemons in the webway under the throne.

Who are the Sisters of Silence?

And there were demons coming out of the throne?

Something like the precursors to the current Witch Hunters; theyw ere basically an all-female order of blanks who were tasked by the Emperor with hunting psykers.

Something like that. The Emperor was experimenting with usage of the Eldar Webway in the depths of the Palace. When Magnus the Red used his warpcraft to alert the Emperor to Horus' betrayal, it caused some bad ju-ju, and daemons started popping out of the Webway Portal.

Hence the necessity of the Throne being in constant operation ever since: without a ludicrously powerful psyker running it (Malcador the Sigillite was killed within hours) that Webway portal beneath the throne would become a full-fledged warp rupture, turning Terra into a mini Eye of Terror and spilling out countless daemons into the materium.
Why wonder why? The answer is simple: obviously, someone somewhere decided that he or she needed Baby Jesus up the ass.
