The Digital Bits reviews Blade Runner Ultimate Edition...

Post by Spanky The Dolphin »

Yesterday The Digital Bits put up a large review of the entire contents of the five-disc Ultimate Edition for Blade Runner (which comes out in a little over a week), effectively covering each of the three separate releases:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewshd ... ver01.html

I'd copy-paste it here but it's a huge, four-page review with screenshots, so it should really be checked out over there.

Overall, it looks to be pretty much the home video release of the year.

Hey, look, an emergency addition to my Christmas list.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal.

Pre-ordered from Amazon for a couple of months already. :D

It's odd, but as much as I dig the movie, there are numerous plot holes that really shouldn't be overlooked. Yet, I can still ignore them and be engrossed in what's happening.

It's also somewhat amusing that Olmos is in this. Kind of like how the guy that plays Tyrol is in I, Robot.

I think this has finally de-throned the Aliens Quadrilogy as my personal choice of "most extensive extras that are actually worth a damn".

I'm not into special features. I can't imagine buying a big fuck-off suitcase full of DVDs when only one cut - ie. the final one, is what I really want to watch. I'll just get the DVD release of the final cut, I understand all the different versions are coming out at the same time.

This is exciting. I pre-ordered mine months ago too, and it certainly seems an excellent value for the money. I intend to watch each version and then wrap up with the sooper-dooper Final edition. Then the commentaries. Three commentaries! This practically reaches extended edition LOTR extras! It's exactly what I was hoping for.

The graphical changes seem appropriate. The visual "mistakes" such as the stunt woman with the horrible wig and the lip-synch errors being cleaned up is not at all objectionable, because quite frankly they are distractions. Minor distractions, to be sure, but distractions all the same.

Now if only more than FIVE fucking cinemas would show the movie on the big screen and at decent times.

Tell me about it. I went all the way from Glasgow to Edinburgh to watch it, on a screen not much bigger than my TV :)

By the way, they've changed one of the bits of dialogue that made people think Deckard was a Replicant; when Bryant tells Deckard about the break-out at Tyrell, 2 Replicants now get fried in the electrical field, not just one. Plus, did the Replicants always have reflective eyes, like a cat? Priss, Batty, Tyrell's owl definitely did, but I can't remember about Deckard. I don't think he did.
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"
