Mulder and Scully vs. The Ymir

I got this idea while watching the classic sci-fi 20 Million Miles to Earth.

Scenario: A spaceship crashes to earth sinking into the waters off the pacific-northwest (since the X-Files films in Canada, Kinda had to). From its hull, before it is engulfed by the ocean, a frozen canister containing the Ymir washes out and lands on shore. It is soon broken open, allowing the creature to thaw out and awaken.

Mulder and Scully arrive investigating the sighting and looking for evidence of a possible crash, eventually locat the empty canister.

This, of course, takes place near a town to allow general interaction with humans.

What you need to know about the Ymir: The creature will grow from its original foot in height to 25ft or so when its metabolsim will finally calm down and it will stop growing. It will grow largeyl 2 feet every 12 hours. It feeds largely on plants and has a drive to find sulfer. Its olfactory senses are beyond anything before seen on earth (were' talking a radius measuered in Miles). Its body has no large organs, the functions underaken by hundreds upon hundreds of tubes. Combined with a scaley hide, it makes ordinary bullets largely useless (as they don't do enough damage to the tubes to be very effective), makes it resistant to almost all known toxins (including the Black Oil) and renders it capable of drawing oxygen from the water as well as it can in the air. At its final height, it could be injured by mounted machinegun fire, but it took multiple anti-tank rockets (3 hits within a yard of the animal, one shot directly to the gut (which did a lot of damage to it)) a 2 yard off tank canon blast and a fall from the Collusiem to slay it.

The creature is also prodigiously strong. Able to burst out of an iron(?) cage at only 4ft tall with little effort, and tear through both sides of an Elephant Enclosure at full size.

The creature is not by nature violent, but its smell is so 'unnatural' to earthly animals that they are often driven to attack it.

It's a frightened animal, about as intelligent as a dog--and people keep POKING it...

It will hover around the town Mulder and Scully are staying in due to the large Sulfer depostits and stores that it will raid for nutrients.

The Conspriacy may or may not get wind of the creature's immunity to Black Oil.

How will Mulder and Scully fare in their investigation? Will the Ymir Surrive the investigation?
