The world after Peak Oil and global resource shortfalls is the current dystopia in vogue right now, judging by "Global Peak."
What other recent settings bring up the concept? I'm not talking about Mad Max and the like- I'm talking about things that were created in the last four or five years, with a 21st century conception of our inevitable Mayan apocalypto. Er, wrong dystopia.
So far I've only seen Frontlines: Fuel of War, the Xbox 360 game.

Did Star Trek ever get into the reasons behind WW3? The novel Federation made references to it, but of course that was non-canon and unspecific. Could WW3 be PO related in the Trekverse? And Cochrane magic-fixed it?
lol, opsec doesn't apply to fanfiction. -Aaron

The non-Canon TMP Novelization remarks that because of the (cheap) energy provided by the Gibraltar dam, the north of Africa and the Iberian peninsula were bastions of relative stability during the 21st century. That's about as close as it gets.tim31 wrote:Did Star Trek ever get into the reasons behind WW3? The novel Federation made references to it, but of course that was non-canon and unspecific. I still like my own idea for a different kind peak oil story, in which everyone gets what they want, unlimited cheap oil…. Only the oil becomes so prolific that every source of freshwater is polluted, forests turn to fields of oil sand, infrastructure is washed away in floods of crude and vast fires breakout that make Kuwait in 1991 look like a campfire. The huge clouds of smoke blocks out the sun enough to trigger the start of an ice age, dropping sea level and disruption world shipping while also killing off much of the surviving plant life, pushing the world further into famine and death. The survivors of the peak of the oil flood are left to try to reclaim a world drown in its own opulence, and naturally, they violently disagree on how to do this…
